Aside from the new film, the anniversary project also includes a 20-episode talk show special featuring past and present cast and staff on YouTube, a rerun of various Garo works on the CS Family Theater channel in Japan starting on June 9, the "Garo 20th Anniversary Exhibition," and a collaboration with the Zoids franchise.

The Garo live-action series franchise has a dark story that revolves around humans that have the job of "Makai Knights," people who fight against demonic beings called Horrors. The first 25-episode television series in 2005 revolves around Makai Knight Kōga Saejima, who tries to save a girl named Kaoru from her fate of death after being tainted by demon blood.

The franchise's latest television series titled Garo Hagane o Tsugu Mono (Garo: Successor of the Steel) aired from January to March last year. The franchise's latest film Garo -Gekkō no Tabibito- (Garo: Moonbow Traveler) premiered in Japan in October 2019.

The Garo the Animation, Garo: Crimson Moon, and Garo -Vanishing Line- television anime aired in 2014, 2015, and 2017, respectively. Funimation streamed the first two series and released them on home video. Crunchyroll streamed Garo -Vanishing Line- with English subtitles as it aired, and Funimation streamed the English dub. Garo: Divine Flame, a film sequel to Garo the Animation, opened in Japan in May 2016. The franchise's latest anime film Usuzumizakura -Garo- (Gray Cherry Blossoms: Garo) premiered in October 2018.
