Theatrical screening of 1st 3 episodes of 2nd season earns estimated US$3,096,000 in opening weekend

Box Office Mojo reported on Monday that the theatrical premiere of the second season of the DAN DA DAN television anime ranked at #8 at the United States box office and earned an estimated US$3,096,000 in its opening weekend.

The film screened in 1,085 theaters. According to Box Office Mojo and The Numbers, it earned an estimated US$1,508,000 on Friday (including US$532,000 during Thursday previews), US$938,000 on Saturday, and US$650,000 on Sunday.

GKIDS began screening DAN DA DAN: EVIL EYE in North America on Friday. The theatrical premiere of the second season's first three episodes screened in Asia outside of Japan on May 30 from Muse, and screened in Europe on Saturday from ADN.

The second season for the anime of Yukinobu Tatsu's DAN DA DAN "paranormal mystery battle & romantic comedy" manga will debut on television on July 3 and will air on MBS and TBS in the "Super Animeism Turbo" programming block. Crunchyroll will stream the series as it airs.

Fūga Yamashiro and Abel Góngora (storyboarder and unit director on the first season) are both credited for directors on the new season at Science SARU. The new season will feature a returning cast. Mutsumi Tamura will play Evil Eye (Jashi).

Aina The End performs the opening theme song "Kakumei Dōchū" (On the Way).

The first season premiered in Japan on October 3 on TBS and MBS's Super Animeism TURBO programming block. Netflix began streaming the anime worldwide on October 3. Crunchyroll also streamed the series. The series had 12 episodes.

Crunchyroll describes the story:

This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist.

To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!?

The story of the occult battle and adolescence starts!

DAN DA DAN: First Encounter, the theatrical screening of the first three episodes, earned an estimated US$1,005,531 during its limited-time screening in the U.S. in September.

Tatsu serializes the manga on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ service. Viz Media publishes the manga in English. Viz Media and Shueisha's MANGA Plus service both publish the manga in English digitally.
