Sony announced on Monday that it is launching a free ad-supported Live TV service on PlayStation 5 in the United States on the same day. The service features over 100 live channels as well as a library of on-demand entertainment in the media section of PS5. Customers have to sign into their PlayStation Account to access the service. The company announced plans to expand service into Canada and other regions at a later date.
The service features anime at launch including Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note, and more. Other content includes movies, TV shows, sports, news and weather, creator and specialty programming, and additional programming.
The Live TV service will change programming regularly, with plans to add more content and channels in the future.
Update: RetroCrush stated on Tuesday the service is now on the PlayStation 5, and that users can access it by going to the "LiveTV" area of the Media home screen and clicking on the Anime tab, to start watching RetroCrush's 24-7 free TV channel.
Sony announced in July that it is ending physical game disc production for all new games on PlayStation consoles starting in January 2028 citing "consumer trends." All new game releases starting in that month will be digital only. This does not affect games that have already been released or that will ship prior to January 2028 as discs.
The company also announced that it is closing the PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The store will close in Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua in August 2026, additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries in late 2026, and in all other countries in July 2027
Sony raised the price of its PS5, PS5 Digital Edition, and PS5 Pro consoles, as well as its PlayStation Portal peripheral, beginning on April 2, due to "continued pressures in the global economic landscape."
