For everyone around the world aiming to become a professional manga artist, SILENT MANGA
AUDITION is an opportunity to show off their skills, and to polish their powers of description and
dramatic direction.
This event is held by Japanese manga publishing company COAMIX, for the purpose of discovering
and cultivating new manga talent from all over the world.

The theme for round 4 was “Charming Gift”, and 448 works were received from 64 countries and
regions. The overall level of the entries were very high, hinting at the vast future potential of the
manga industry. Even more entries are expected for future rounds.

The top awards were taken by Vietnam and Indonesia. In total, 20 award winners from 11 different countries were selected.

This year, the 51 AWARD NOMINEES and 81 AWARD CANDIDATES were also announced, in hopes
of spurring these artists to even greater levels of achievement.

A portion of the top award winners will be invited to the “SMA MASTER CLASS”. Members of the
MASTER CLASS will be invited to Japan in February 2016 to attend an awards ceremony. In
addition, they will each be assigned an experienced manga editor, who will assist them in aiming for a debut.
While in Japan, in addition to sightseeing, they will travel together with their editors, visit the judge's manga studios, and receive hands-on training in manga creation. This training program is hoped to accelerate their debuts as professional manga artists.

The next round SMA05 has already begun, and entries for the new theme “Friendship &
Communication Tool” are already being accepted. The submission period is from 1st October 2015 to 31 March 2016.

Practical tutorial videos for manga creation, made by seasoned manga professionals, are also
available for viewing on the official website SMAC! Web Magazine. Potential entrants are strongly
encouraged to watch these tutorials, and use them as a source of reference.
