Animazement Announces 2016 Charities

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA – April 5, 2016 – Animazement® announced today that they will be partnering with a number of charities for their 2016 convention, set May 27th-29th. In 2015 they donated over $12,000 to nine charities (listed here) and are hoping to match or increase that amount this year.

In light of the recent earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan, they will be donating a portion of their charity funds to Kumamoto to aid in relief efforts.

Be the Match® is a bone marrow donation registry program through which patients searching for a cure can be matched with potential donors. According to Betsie Letterle, Community Engagement Representative, “Every three minutes, one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. That's more than six people each hour, or 148 people each day. Patients are searching for a cure. It could be you.” Be the Match® will have a table in the Artists' Alley where individuals looking to sign up for the donor program can find more information and submit cheek-swab samples.

Stack-Up.org© is an organization that helps active-duty soldiers and veterans – often with PTSD, depression, stress, or other injuries – find enjoyment and relief through donations of video games, consoles, and other gaming equipment. They'll be hosting a push-up competition, and Animazement® will be accepting donations of video games or equipment (new or used).

Animator Supporters is a Japanese non-profit organization dedicated to helping Japanese animators by providing them with affordable and quality living arrangements while also giving them access to career opportunities, professional development, and training. The monthly salary for a Japanese animator is equivalent to approximately $900, and in many places this is not even enough for rent. Animator Supporters founder Jun Sugawara (himself an animator) will be attending the convention as a guest, along with animators Kiyotaka Oshiyama (Fullmetal Alchemist) and Tatsurō Kawano (Boruto -Naruto the Movie-), where they will talk more about the organization and how to assist.

In addition to these groups, Animazement®, a 501(c)3 charitable organization themselves, will be donating the proceeds from their annual charity auction and various other charity events to the following organizations.

  • Kumamoto, Japan (for earthquake relief)
  • The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County
  • The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina
  • The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA)
  • The NC Association for Teachers of Japanese
  • The Southeastern Association of Teachers of Japanese
  • The North Carolina Japanese Exchange Foundation
  • Raleigh Little Theatre
