Tokyo, Japan -- The SUGOI JAPAN Award2017, the Japan's nationwide vote for manga, anime, ranobe* (light novel) and entertaining novel works is going to start voting on November 16th. Eighty outstanding works, selected through recommendations by fans and experts, are shortlisted. The poll will be closed on January 3rd, 2017, and the results will be announced on March 16th at the SUGOI JAPAN Award2017 ceremony in Tokyo. Along with the launch of the ballot, a special interview with Makoto Shinkai, the author of a novel 'Your Name.' which is nominated in the award, will be posted on the web site.

'One Punch-Man,' originally a web manga that came to be mainstream hit, was awarded the last year's Manga genre, while 'Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?' won the Ranobe genre. SUGOI JAPAN Award2016 attracted 65,294 votes in total.

* Ranobe (light novels) = A type of novel mainly targeting relatively younger readers. It usually spotlights unique characters and is often published with an anime-like illustrated cover. Doug Liman's film “Edge of Tomorrow,” for instance, is based on the ranobe “All You Need is Kill.”
