TOKYO—January 30, 2017—Amazon announced it has renewed its highly rated Crayon Shin-chan spinoff series for a third season. The new series Crayon Shin-chan: Lone Wolf and Family will start streaming exclusively with unlimited viewing on Amazon Prime Video in Japan beginning on February 22. Each season the spinoffs have been very different from the ordinary daily life depicted in the original TV shows: Crayon Shin-chan: Alien vs. Shinnosuke, set on a spaceship in the near future; Crayon Shin-chan: Toy Wars, a fantasy-action reboot of Volume 41 in the original comic books “Figure Wars;” and the upcoming third season is an adaptation of the period-drama themed Shin-chan comic titled “Lone Wolf and Family.” The 13-episode series will stream weekly with new seven-minute episodes every Wednesday. Amazon Prime members can watch and download the series via the free Amazon Prime Video app for iOS and Android mobile devices, Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire tablets, game consoles, smart TVs, and online at www.amazon.co.jp/PrimeVideo.

“We're delighted to continue our partnership with the creative team behind Crayon Shin-chan to offer new series from one of the most popular characters on our Prime Video service,” said James Farrell, Head of Content, Asia Pacific, Amazon Prime Video. “After previous adventures battling aliens and evil toy figures, this time the Nohara family embarks on a swashbuckling journey as in the samurai classic Lone Wolf and Cub. We can't wait to see how our members react to his latest antics.”

“Crayon Shin-chan has finally entered its third season, and following space and toys, the theme this time is a period drama,” commented Shin-Ei Animation producer Kiyoshi Mabuchi. “Based on Lone Wolf and Cub, it incorporates elements of the original, but turns into a period road movie with laughs, tears and swordplay. What is the rumored Nohara-school of butt-swordplay? You'll have to watch to find out!”

"Hiroshinosuke Nohara is a lone wolf, a man who makes a living with his sword, along with his son and disciple Shinnosuke," commented director Michio Mihara. "When they meet a girl, Hazumi, they are subjected to a number of trials. It's an unprecedented family drama: passionate, butt-swashbuckling and action-packed!"

"The third season is a historical drama," commented showrunner and screenwriter Kimiko Ueno. "The story is based on the original Lone Wolf and Cub. The butt-swordplay, fighting with a sword between the cheeks, is pure silliness. There's even a bit of a romance with his biggest rival in the silly butt-swordplay. The slightly different landscape is one of the highlights this time. We tried to make a funny show that everyone can enjoy."

Crayon Shin-chan: Lone Wolf and Family Synopsis
