Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions Features Original Music by Composers Including Elik Álvarez and Freddy Sheinfeld

(February 6, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Currently in theaters nationwide and in Canada, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions, features original music from four composers, including two composers from the original series, Elik Álvarez (HARRY & SNOWMAN, GALAPAGOS 3D WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH) and Freddy Sheinfeld (Escobar: Paradise Lost, Conquest of the Sky 3D).

“Before we started the scoring process we discussed in detail how the directors wanted the movie to sound like,” said Sheinfeld. “We have been involved with the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise since the first movie which was released back in 2004.”

In Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions, the stakes have never been higher; the rivalries never as fierce; the risks never so great. One wrong move—one card short—and it's game over for good. A decade in the making, Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Dark Side of Dimensions features new designs and an all-new story from the original creator of the global phenomenon, Kazuki Takahashi. His masterful tale features anime's most beloved characters in their long-awaited return: Yugi Muto, Seto Kaiba and their faithful friends Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor, Téa Gardner and Bakura. It's the most highly anticipated re-YU-nion ever!

“The main themes we carried from the TV series were the Yu-Gi-Oh! transformation, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon and the friendship themes,” said Sheinfeld. “We haven't used those themes for a while, so it was a lot of fun to use them again, but with a more modern and cinematic approach.”

“We wanted the audience connecting again to those themes and at the same time we needed to adapt them to the tone of the movie and the style of the score,” Álvarez added. “Many times we also found ourselves deconstructing those themes and including them in our cues, sometimes they were very obvious, sometime they were ‘hidden’ somewhere within the orchestration.”

Álvarez and Sheinfeld are frequent collaborators. Both composers have worked on the Yu-Gi-Oh! television series and have worked on several David Attenborough documentaries including CONQUEST OF THE SKIES 3D, MICRO MONSTERS 3D, GALAPAGOS 3D and GREAT BARRIER REEF WITH DAVID ATTENBOROUGH. Together with composer Joel Douek, Álvarez and Sheinfeld's score for KINGDOM OF PLANTS 3D was named Best Documentary Score award at the International Film Music Festival and was nominated Best Original Score for a Documentary Feature by the International Film Music Critic Association.

Elik Álvarez is a Venezuelan-born composer living in Los Angeles, who has captured his audience with his unique compositions for the screen. A dynamic artist Álvarez has composed music for a variety of different endeavors. Some of his most recent film scores include the documentary feature HARRY & SNOWMAN and PEANUTS AND CRACKERJACKS (PAPITA, MANI, TOSTON), one of the biggest box office films in Venezuelan History (third only to TITANIC and MALEFICENT). His many episodic TV credits include, ROBERT REDFORD'S AMERICA. THE BEAUTIFUL, SECRETS OF EGYPT, G.I. JOE SIGMA SIX, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, THE Yu-Gi-Oh! SERIES, and countless work on various specials featured on the Discovery Channel, such as Shark Week Special, OCEAN OF FEAR narrated by RICHARD DREYFUSS. In addition to his others film and TV works, Álvarez wrote the music for the BUNDESLIGA official 2015 season opener at the Allianz Arena in Munich, which was performed in front of more than 67,000 people.

Freddy Sheinfeld is a Venezuelan composer with more than a decade of experience writing music for film and television. His work on film includes music for Escobar: Paradise LosT and the action film La Hora Cero, which in 2010 became the highest grossing Venezuelan film. Sheinfeld's music can be heard on hundreds of TV episodes for shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Yu-Gi-Oh! series. In addition to TV and film, his music accompanies permanent museum exhibits including: Simon Wiesenthal's Tribute (a multimedia presentation on the life and legacy of Simon Wiesenthal) and In Our Time, which can be seen at the Los Angeles' Museum of Tolerance and at the New York Tolerance Center. Freddy's versatility as a composer can also be heard on Anthony Zuiker's (CSI) Cybergeddon, a heart-pounding electronic action series starring Olivier Martinez (UNFAITHFUL), Missy Peregrym (ROOKIE BLUE) and Kick Gurry (SPEED RACER).
