Misako Aoki, Kawaii Ambassador, Will Be Coming to Chicago in July

Chicago's summer anime convention Anime Midwest will play host to the Kawaii Ambassador for Lolita Fashion, Misako Aoki.

ROSEMONT, IL - April 6, 2017 - AnimeCon.org announced today that it will be hosting the KawaiiAmbassador for Lolita Fashion from Japan, Misako Aoki. Misako has modeled for Lolita fashion brands such as Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and Angelic Pretty. She will participate in a lolita tea party and lolita fashion show at the convention July 7-9, 2017 in Chicago, Illinois.

Misako Aoki is a model for Japanese lolita fashion and an ambassador of kawaii pop culture, and since 2013 she is also the President of the Association of Japanese lolitas. She debuted as a model while she was studying nursing, and has represented Japanese lolita fashion through the magazine KERA. In March 2009 she was appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan as “Kawaii Ambassador” representing Lolita fashion, in order to disseminate this trend globally. In February 2013 she founded the Japanese Lolitas Association, Nihon Lolita Kyoukai, to strengthen ties with people interested in Lolita fashion worldwide. She has modeled in outfits for several brands including Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, and Angelic Pretty.

On the fashionable streets of Japan, particularly Harajuku and Yoyogi Park, women and girls of all ages dress in beautiful couture dresses adorned with frills, lace, bows, and intricately patterned fabric. The baby-doll dresses end in a sea of ruffles just below the knees, and huge bows pin their long hair and wigs into place. The fashion is called “Lolita,” and fans all over the world have been embracing the trend. It represents a trend of Victorian-style dresses and large ruffles becoming popular among girls wanting to look "Kawaii".
