LAAF This Weekend

November 27, North Hollywood This coming Friday-Sunday is the Los Angeles Animation Festival at The Mayflower Club in North Hollywood. The festival includes over 40 independent shorts in competition, some by renowned independents, others by current art school undergrads and one, Animal Behaviour, is the latest from Academy Award Winners Alison Snowden and David Fine (Bob's Birthday). All are the cream of the crop from hundreds and hundreds of entries judged by the festival directors and 8 industry professionals. The opening night party, which is in part a benefit for Women in Animation, features the actor star of "Spongebob Squarepants," Tom Kenny with his 13-piece sixties revival soul band. There will be raffles, prizes, DJ, sponsored refreshments as well as a cash bar and an opportunity to meet and mingle with some of animation's best.

Saturday evening includes a historical retrospective of the work of Honoree Chris Prynoski, the co-founder with Shannon Prynoski of LA's great independent studio Titmouse Inc.

Other features include various panels with directors and writers from TV and film, the LA premiere of Joanna Priestley's widely praised feature North of Blue, a making of Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs presented by production designer Paul Harrod, and the truly original coming of age story from Central American Tropical Virus.

Sunday's panels and screenings culminate in an awards night with plenty of winners and prizes and includes a special award for VR storytelling pioneer Evette Vargas. For more information, go to http://blog.laafest.com/tickets/
