SAILING OVER $9.3M IN NORTH AMERICA IN ITS OPENING WEEKEND


The critically and audience acclaimed film signifies the considerable continued growth of the global hit franchise


Culver City, California (November 7, 2022) – One Piece Film Red, a Toei Animation film distributed in North America, Germany and Australia/New Zealand by Crunchyroll, had an impressive opening weekend in the United States and Canada, as fans and audiences showed up to theaters across the countries – catapulting the anime blockbuster to an “A” CinemaScore and boasting a 95% Rotten Tomatoes rating from both critics and audiences alike.

In its debut weekend, One Piece Film Red, the 15th feature film in the One Piece franchise and directed by Goro Taniguchi, discovered treasure with $9,323,267 at the domestic box office. The franchise has seen considerable growth with One Piece Film Red marking a wider release than past films, offering fans even more opportunity to enjoy the newest installment of the hit global franchise. In 2019, One Piece Stampede opened as an event style release with a total gross of $1,308,571, and now in 2022, One Piece Film Red opened in over 2,400 theaters across North America with a remarkable total gross opening weekend of over $9.3M.

One Piece Film Red is the latest in a slate of major theatrical releases from Crunchyroll in North America and opened on 3280 screens in 2415 theaters, with a large footprint of premium formats including IMAX, 4DX, MX4D, Dolby Cinemas, and DBox. The film is available in Japanese with English subtitles as well as dubbed in English.

Uta—the most beloved singer in the world whose voice has been described as "otherworldly"—is renowned for concealing her own identity when performing. Now, for the first time ever, she will reveal herself to the world at a live concert.

With the Navy watching closely, the venue fills with Uta's fans—including excited pirates and the Straw Hats led by Luffy, who simply came to enjoy her sonorous performance—all eagerly awaiting the voice that the whole world has been waiting for to resound. The story begins with the shocking revelation that she is the enigmatic Shanks' daughter. Uta stands on the stage, with the ordinary wish of “making the world happy with my music.” There's Gordon, a mysterious character who knows Uta's past, and glimpses of Shanks' shadow. On Elegia, the island of music, Luffy and Uta reunite for the first time since they last met 12 years ago in Foosha Village.
