Pennsylvania Anime Convention Setsucon Returns Next Weekend, January 13th-15th

ALTOONA, PA – Setsucon will soon be returning next weekend at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Prices for the badges at the door will be $45 for a weekend badge, $35 for a Friday to Saturday badge, and $25 for a Sunday only badge.

Setsucon, run by the students & alumni of the Penn State Anime Organization, has been bringing Japanese culture, such as anime, manga, and cosplay, to the Central Pennsylvania area for over 15 years. Setsucon wants to bring a safe and inclusive environment for anime and manga fans of all ages, as well as beyond. The family-friendly event will have over 180 hours of programing celebration anime and Japanese culture, including fan and guest panels, anime viewings, game shows, musical events, cosplay workshops, and much more.

This year, Setsucon will have many events and activities taking place during the convention including Gaming Events hosted by Philadelphia-area based Origin of Play (Demon Slayer, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Multiversus, Mario Kart 8, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 7), a Japanese Maid Café presented by Pixel Pop Maid Café, Cosplay Contests including the Hall Cosplay Contest, Masquerade, Wig Styling Competition, and Iron Cosplay, a Setsu Odori Late Night Dance featuring DJ Kyon, Kohei Hattori, and Trickstar, an Anime Music Video Contest, Cosplay Meetups, Tabletop Tournaments, Magic The Gathering Draft, an Itasha Car Show & Fashion Area presented by Livery By Design, Bibisama, and Valeza, and a showcase of the Laura Rayman Memorial Library presented by the Penn State Anime Organization. Setsucon will host a Jared Box event, where attendees can drop off gifts, toys, and activities to help children in hospitals and ERs. Additionally, the Silent Auction returns to support the Colon Cancer Coalition, in memory of late voice actor & PA native, Billy Kametz. Alongside those events, Setsucon will hold four concerts for those attending at no additional cost. These musical acts include Awesomus Prime, Antipode, DJ Kyon, Kohei Hattori, Trickstar, and Heroes 4 Hire.

Outside of those guests, plenty of other great guests will be attending Setsucon. Those guests include; voice actors such as Aaron Dismuke and Sarah Wiedenheft, dance perform group: Fake Idol Project, maid café guest Pixel Pop Maid Cafe, musical performers including Awesomus Prime, Antipode, DJ Kyon, Kohei Hattori, Trickstar, and Heroes 4 Hire, panelists guest Lex Winter, convention emcee Silver Sheep, and cosplay judges Corwynte, Riyuski, AeonisPi, Minomotu, and Risuruuu.

ABOUT SETSUCON: Setsucon is organized by the Penn State Anime Organization at University Park. Starting out in 2007 at the Days Inn Penn State in State College, this student and alumni run event moved to Altoona in 2018 to continue growing and presenting a safe and inclusive family friendly convention to Pennsylvania and beyond. With nearly 1,500 attendees, it is one of the largest fandom events in Central Pennsylvania and the fourth largest annual anime convention in the state. Setsucon was named the Penn State Student Organization Program of the Year in 2018. The next convention will be held January 13th-15th, 2023 at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
