Toriyama Designed Car to go on Sale in March

On March 27th, CQ Motors of Japan will begin selling an electric automobile designed by Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball fame.

The 1 seater QVOLT is the fourth car in the "CheroQ" series of small electric cars produced by CQ Motors. The car will be sold for 1,990,000 yen (US$19,000 approx). The car will have a top speed of 30 km/h (18 mph) and a range of 80 km (48 miles). It will be available in 5 colors, yellow, light blue, black, red and Ivory white. Only 9 QVOLTs will be produced.

Toriyama stated that the QVOLT design took over a year to produce, "I especially love Qcar like small cars, to make this a fun car to drive, I took my time and designed it over a period of more than one year." The car is designed to look like an old American street-rod and featurs some unique design elements, such as the unique top and the door, which opens by pulling a cord. "Value and balance gave me a hard time, but due to my genius mini-model construction skills, I finally arrived at the end of what was a very emotional journey. Although the price may seem steep, I think it's a bargain."

Pictures of the QVOLT can be seen at CQ Motors website here.

Other Q-Cars, including one inspired by the legendary Lotus/Caterham 7 can be seen here.
