JETRO Sets up Shop in LA

Japan External Trade Organization Opens LA Office to Promote Japanese Animation and Games

On April 12th, The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) established a new enterprise for the support of Japanese anime and game software contents business exports to America.

Although the popularity of Japanese entertainment products has grown significantly in North America over the last couple years, Japanese companies have, until now, been suffering from a lack of knowledge regarding the American market and legal system. This lack of knowledge has cost Japanese firms in their dealings with the American market and companies.

Located close to Hollywood, JETRO's Los Angeles office was established as head office of the "JETRO platform (JEP)". JEP's main purpose is to collect information regarding movie, anime and game software production companies located in the Hollywood area, as well as subcontractors and distributors, offering consultation services to Japanese companies considering export business with America.

JEP will also, in the case of concrete plans, offer to introduce companies and offer consultations with specialized contract lawyers.

Established in 1958, JETRO is a government body that works to provide mutual trade and investment between Japan and the rest of the world.
