Shoujo Manga Exhibition at CSU-Chico

California State University-Chico Exhibition Features Lectures and Nearly 200 Original Pieces of Artwork From the Likes of CLAMP and Osamu Tezuka
California State University-Chico is holding an art exhibition of contemporary shoujo manga that has just opened and will be continue through early December. The exhibit features nearly 200 original pieces of artwork from 23 historical and contemporary shoujo manga artists (ranging from Tezuka to CLAMP) After it closes at CSU-Chico it will then travel next spring to Penn State University and the Art Institute of Chicago. After that it will tour in Japan and Taiwan. In addition to the exhibit CSU-Chico will be presenting several public lectures about manga and anime and will be hosting some visiting manga artists from Japan. The exhibition was created by Dr. Masami Toku, Professor of Art and Art History at CSU, Chico and will feature speakers such as Frederik Schodt, Marc Hairston, as well as numerous creators, researchers and scholars, including some from Japan, such as Keiko Takemiya, shoujo manga artist and professor at Kyoto Seika University and Tomoko Yamada, curator Kawasaki City Museum.
