1. I was referring to the anti-AoA people as a whole, not just him. 2. Clearly you don't know what the term "imply" means. Anyone who is not biased and read in-between the lines within his statement would come to that conclusion. |

So, if they don't agree with you, they must be "biased", because "anyone" else would be able to see the truth? It's not possible that someone could be unbiased *and* still not interpret things the same way you have? Heh. Amusing.

Eh, the pricing isn't too bad by Aniplex standards, but I'm really not into buying singles in 2014. Holding out for a series release in region 2/B.

So, out of curiosity (and because I was thinking of buying the Durarara blu-ray lunchbox thing...maybe), just how bad is the quality of Aniplex DVDs and blu-rays? I was thinking of buying the anime episodes digitally, since it was a third of the cost, but when I bought one episode and played it on my PS3 as a test, the quality was horrible. The picture looked fuzzy, the voices sounded muffled, and there were no English subtitles at all, even when characters were speaking Russian. There was also no option for the Japanese audio that I could see, so I was stuck unless i wanted to learn Russian or go on Hulu to find it subbed...which kind of defeats the purpose of buying it.
So, how is Aniplex about blu-rays? Also about PS3's being region-free, mine didn't work, even when I put a region 0 DVD in. Worked fine on the computer, though. |

The quality varies from series to series, I've noticed. On the one hand, Aniplex's original Durarara!! DVDs looked really good, almost bluray-level quality themselves. However, their Blue Exorcist, SAO, and Madoka Magica DVDs had really terrible, fuzzy encodes. And the Blue Exorcist movie looked so bad it reminded me of the old "Mangle Entertainment" DVDs from the late 90's. I've heard that the Garden of Sinners and Magi DVDs both look good, but after having been burned in the past, I'm not willing to pay the (still high) prices for potentially crappy looking video. Even though I'm not expecting bluray quality out of a DVD, if a DVD costs $40-$60, it should at least look *GOOD*. As for their blurays, they do look really good, but I honestly can't see much difference between their video quality and recent FUNimation blurays. The whole excuse of their prices being high because of "higher quality" is largely a fabrication. Not to mention the fact that they've been slowly but surely nerfing the English dub audio on all their bluray releases is totally unacceptable. Fate/Zero's audio bitrate on the dub was only 192kbps, and their excuse was because of "limited space on the disc." But considering that they only put 2-4 episodes per bluray disc, that's complete and utter baloney. As you can see, I don't just blindly rant about my distaste for Aniplex. I've at least done my research. |

I would think that with all the complaints that Anixplex has gotten/heard on their prices, they should follow the price standards that Viz, Sentai, and Funimation use.

I'm all for people voicing their disagreements with Aniplex's pricing methodology - they certainly ream me when I want something they release - but there is one thing that annoys me about the complaints:
No one acknowledges that most of what Aniplex releases is available for free, any time you want it without any requirement to purchase the physical releases. In the case of Kill la Kill, I just watched the a couple of episodes for fun the other night on Daisuki.net in pretty nice quality and with no advertisements. Even if it weren't on Daisuki, these days, most things end up on Crunchyroll for which free streaming incurs but a brief set of commercials (during which time I just mess about with something else). I know this isn't a perfect solution for everyone - especially to those outside the U.S. - but at least Aniplex isn't denying access to their shows. Were there an inability to see their releases outside of highly-priced physical releases, then, and only then, could I really feel that Aniplex was 100% evil as many people make them out to be. |

That does absolutely nothing for those of us who have already seen the series and now wish to purchase it, though. Also there's no guarantee that a series uploaded on a streaming site will be up there in two years, or five, or ten, whereas physically owning it ensures that it will be available for you to watch indefinitely (so long as you don't use your disks as coasters or something).

People are buying it (in a couple cases their titles are selling out I believe), so they'll stick to their prices for the foreseeable future. These KLK sets do seem a bit more reasonably priced by their standards though, however the release structure which harkens back to the early 2000s isn't gonna help a whole lot with their critics, as you can see by this thread. Say, did anyone else receive an anonymous email from someone in this very discussion which revealed them to be mentally unhinged? Not that it's a big deal, it was just hilarious. |

You know i really can't help but notice how Nonon is NOT being voiced by Kari Wahlgren. ( though she's not too bad)
Not to mention Tabitha ST Germain would have been a perfect Satsuki. |

The point is that you have options when it comes to watching the show. If you choose neither because you feel that Aniplex of America owes you the show at whatever price you feel is appropriate, then that is a decision that can only be tied to yourself in terms of fault. No one is entitled to nor has the right to own these shows. |
