All buying these Aerocat figures do is proclaim you to be a pervert without even the dignity to just buy porn.

I suppose I have more issues with the nondescript faces than the near-pornographic poses and sculpts.

A shame too, since I have a friend who digs the various "costumed Rei & Asuka" sets and probably would've wanted these. Oddly enough, his girlfriend thinks this sort of thing is pretty cool too.

Personally, I think such things are much better off in 1/8th scale resin or PVC, but c'est la vie.

If you hate it so much, why did you buy it in the first place? It should have been obvious it was going to suck just by looking at a picture.

Ya, you're right about that. Almost as bad as the article on condensed milk on Dannychoo. Seriously, what is the obsession with male passtimes and figures. Glad I've never thought of misusing my figures.

On a side note, those figures are horribly crafted. I can't stand buying Gasphoons and these types of figures. Hell, I hate the figures that even have horrible articulation, though I will admit that something like the Figma's are pretty good.

Anyways, trust me. Once you go out and buy the expensive ones, you can never go back. I myself just within the last month preordered Goth Lolita Yuki, Goth Punk Mikuru and Goth Punk Louise as well as the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Nendoroid (though I typically hate Nendoroids, SZS is awesome). So throw those crappy figures in the back of your closet, or give em to some other poor unfortunate sap Razz

or some of the hentai PC games, made by Gainax

ehm, I'm not aware of real official hentai games of Gainax. I think there are some official illustrations with various strip poses that might be from a PC game, but as far as I know these are the only ones that are perhaps official. The visual novels Iron Maiden I and II contain no hentai pictures (the newer one is avaialbe on PS2 and rated CERO 15), so I think in terms of games the Eva characters kept their dignity Wink (if you ignore the general quality of the games^^).

To their credit though, at least these models make original use of those devices on the pilots' heads. I never quite knew what they were for myself.

Well, they appear to have been designed to look like cats ears in the first place. It would explain their placement, triangular shape, and colour (especially for Asuka in that hers match her hair colour). So making them actually be cats ears is just the next logical step.

As for what they are:

A10 nerve clip

The A10 nerve clips[1] are brain-computer interface devices worn by Eva pilots on their heads which aid in synchronization with the Evas[2]. The Evangelion Death & Rebirth Theatrical Program booklet states:

The Evangelion are controlled mainly by linking with the cranial nerves of the pilot. Of these, the most important is this A^10 nerve. ... It is associated with higher order brain functions such as memory, cognizance and the execution of movement, and with emotions such as anxiety, fear, happiness and pleasure. In addition, it is also said to play an important role in affection between parent and child, and between lovers.

In Yoshiyuki Sadamoto's introduction to the bonus materials at the end of vol. 1 of the manga, he writes:

On the floor of the midbrain is the ventral tegmental system, that neurobiologists call region A10. Cells soaked in dopamine, certain emotions are processed here: such as the thoughts of two lovers - or a parent and a child. And it is the synchronization of the threads and bundles of A10 that splice pilot and Eva together; to become one entity, to fight. In other words, the power of love drives this weapon of mass destruction.

Asuka near-constantly wears hers, during her daily life and at school.

OK, my joke wasn't very classy. But that condensed milk is downright nasty. Granted, my fault for looking it up... but still.

That last photo was AWESOME, by the way. A picture really is worth a thousand words...

Wow, I have an ever growing collection of Eva figures, and in particular Rei. Yet I certainly am not touching these. The sexualization doesn't bug me as much as the generic faces and catgirl fetish. Guess I'm used to Gainax going for cheap thrills and sex sells. Just this seems like pandering and doesn't 'do it for me' as Lonestar said.

Though I got to admit the pretty damn kinky handcuffed police girl Rei also from Sega is pretty tempting. Some of Sega's catcher prize figures aren't bad.

Actually, looking over the list, I have a number of them. Wow. I didn't realize how many I found were Sega Prizes. I got the Gladiator Rei and the commando Rei. Hell, I even got their Eva Russian nesting doll on sale while I was in Japan.

A bunch of others on sale for less than ten bucks. (Gee. I wonder what customs thought if they opened it.)
Got these Rei ones on sale for like 180 yen each

While I'm not a figure collector myself and rarely comment on this column, your sense of humor amuses me greatly.

Someone mentioned the Grimlock set.

I read about those a few years back and was so very disappointed that they had nothing to do with the REAL Grimlock, otherwise, part of me would have wanted them, despite my fear of those Transformer-cosplaying anime girls.

By the way, kids, just think to yourself -- they haven't made figures of the girls cosplaying as their robots.
