What specifically are you talking about? There's nothing in there that rings any warning bells for me.

It's not about 'warning bells'. It's about it being completely odd in terms of character design, setting, and the OP being cute J-pop. That would most certainly get you funny looks. And that's before trying to explain that you are showing a child something in Japanese with English subtitles in a setting that has to do with Japanese deities with one in particular being a catgirl.

Perhaps to a family that doesn't know anything about Anime they might think Cat God to be weird, although I'd argue no weirder than a lot of cartoons on television. To those who do know a little about Anime, this show is extremely tame. It's no tentacle porn.

So as long as they aren't completely closed minded bigots, whats the problem, precisely?

I love the opening theme and the overall show was good and light-hearted

I think this series is more popular with the older crowd in japan
maybe it appeals to older women like shugo chara or honey and clover

The 'problem' is that dtm was disingenuous. It would get you odd looks. That's the extent of the problem. If he wanted to say that there's no porn or violence or anything skeevy, that's fine and true. But it's also true for thousands of other anime titles so I don't really see the point in bringing it up. But no, if I were to show my nephew Cat God then I would most certainly get odd looks from at least my sister-in-law, because it's really not entertainment intended and especially not geared towards children. The manga source for the anime runs in the same magazine as Aki Sora (Champion Red Ichigo) for instance.

Could people stop accusing me of being things I'm not?

When I say that some families would find this extremely tame I was being entirely honest. Most of my extended family wouldn't bat an eyelid at that OP.

It doesn't matter what magazine the Manga ran in. The Anime is tame. I know because I've watched it all, including the OVA. If it were dubbed it could play on television in New Zealand without complaint.

While dtm42 is, in fact, frequently disingenuous, he was not in this situation.

Assertion not in evidence, also so what?

It has some Les yay implications, something typical of a predominately female cast show, so I dont think that would fly with many parents. But I hear its pretty tame compared to others.

I dont get though why people are not allowed to express a negative reaction. Why must everyone act like its all flowers, sunshine, and rain drops. Some poeple will like it and some wont and both can express there opinion.

the show is quirky in the loosest sense. yes its about anthropomorphic animal gods interacting with people. But it does have that same quirky charm as Arakawa under the bridge or electric girl/Denpa do. It does have the following of Pandora hearts or a game related show like Persona. It does not have the substance of occult academy, hanasaku iroha, bunny drop etc. honestly the only other shows that NISA put out that werent super duper were Enma (bbut this is based on a go nagi work, one of the legends of anime) and zakuro (at least this had a sakura wars vibe and some substance). For one NIS already did that with Our fox home deity, which I personally thought was very good and nothing from this show indicates it will top that. It

Cat god is like a said a show that tries to be something between azumanga daioh and binobogami/gg sasami chan, and its neither. Somebody hit it right on the head, they had to pretty much be given this show for free or in a package. NIS really should be putting out things that Aniplex is putting out like gatari series, or putting out things like hagani or the aforementioned Binbogami. Why is that show not licensed?

Look I realize some people might like the show. good for you, but question the release of a show like this by a company like Nisa is the same like asking why your Football team paid the transfer fee to get a 3rd string benchwarmer instead of going for a solid first line player. true, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but somethings really are average as a consensus by the majority, and some are good or bad by the same token.

I've never heard of this anime and while it does sound like something that I'd like, I'll have to watch some episodes online first before I decide to buy it.

Cute show, but not enough there to want me to purchase. Kudos for it's fans, though.

It looks adorable, Will have to watch a couple episodes on Crunchy.

^^; Simply by the style it looks like younger kids would like it but, Since it will be subbed only it's doubtful it'd keep a lot of munchkins attention. Guess it depends on the age...

I went ahead and watched the first episode on CR, and all I can say is, I will totally buy this just to hear Yui Horie as Yuzu for 13 episodes.

(Not ignoring the rest of the great seiyuu talent there, and the show is decent enough to support them.)

Yeah if it was dubbed. Not a collectible, but something dispensable ya can sit the kids in front of to keep them occupied.
