Wow, if ADV had a nickel for every time an article about live-action Evangelion was printed with little in the way of specifics as to which studio would be backing them but a lot in the way of "some WETA guy talking about how 'excited' he is to be able to work on this project", then... umm... they'd have a big pile of nickels but still be at least $60 million short.

They could start collecting bottles to reedem for the nickel deposit.

I found this when doing a search for the Eva movie on Google:

My real name is Micheal Hunt, Head Sound Engineer at Weta Workshop. I am pleased to tell you that work on the Evangelion movie is underway and is progressing smoothly. The musical score by John Williams is outstanding; it will immerse you in the story so much, you'll feel like you're the pilot of the Eva. Also, the sound effects are out of this world. Once you hear that Eva roar, you'll be scared stiff. Trust me, I've been doing sound design for a whole week now and I know what I'm doing. Believe it. I am please to be a part of this project. I have just started watching the Evangelion cartoon on Cartoon Network, and it is truly amazing. Now I see why you all like anime so much. The Evangelion movie does not have a set release date, but it should be out soon. Maybe in a few years or something. But keep waiting for it. It will be the #1 film of the year. Believe it.

I wonder what loser conjoured that up due to sheer boredom.

It took over 15 years for Warner Brothers to get a Superman movie in production. That's a high-profile property that a lot of folks wanted to see made (and a lot of money was spent in pre-production).

Evangelion, as a movie property, has a story that's hard to nail down and characters you may or may not care about. It has tons of visual and computer FX requirements, and it involves giant robots and angels. Does anyone think even a coke-addict Hollywood exec is going to greenlight this thing? There have been bigger gambles in Hollywood's history (LotR being one of them), but Eva is a wild shot in the dark. At least LotR had the books and five decades of fan loyality from the books.

I think unless someone who is a closet anime fan and influential in the film industry takes a shine to the Eva project, there's a snowball's chance in Hades. The property isn't like anything Hollywood has ever done, as far as I'm aware.

" Taylor said in an interview while promoting his latest project, King Kong. "I think that is the great untold story to the world. It is sublime. It is arguably some of the most beautiful and poignant animation ever created, and a huge percentage of the pop culture world now know it, but only through a live-action feature film will it transcend that and receive the recognition for the art piece that it is."

Anyone else besides me (and it seems Mohawk52, sorry if I'm misrepresenting) have a good riddance attitude towards this comment and people mentioned in it? It's not like there's anything stopping them from getting the story right now. Just because they're probably prejudice against geeks and geeking things, means they need it to be repackeged to suit their taste? Didn't the same thing happen with comic books and Lord of the Rings? Except those movies actually got made. Laughing

Anime hyper WHAT AN IDIOT!

Does he not realize how bad most animation > live action adaptations are? Or does he just think that anime (or in his mind, probably "Japanese cartoons") is some obscure genre that only a select few know about, like how it was back in the 80s? Or both? Probably that one.

He's a filmmaker. Of course he's aware of this. He's also aware of the perception that cartoons/anime have here in the US. He's right, EVA will have to be live action to get wide-spread here in America, weither or not we like that fact.
