The lengths that Death Note fans go to defending these immoral death threats shows that they completely missed the whole message of the show.

Twist that it was the teacher and not the student doing it. Still troublesome that this is still a thing.

You know what is more scary than a fantasy manga, the damn Fukushima Nuclear Accident! A mandatory field trip there would have been a better threat. How about some real life Coppelion is more frightening than Death Note.

Is the Death book that prominent in Japanese culture those elementary school kids knew what it was? Shocked

Seriously, it was wrong for a teacher to threaten children like that.

Seriously. Hasn't it occurred to anyone that there is no such thing in the real world and that no notebook has any kind of power over life and death? (Except maybe a grade book, but that's an inside joke for teachers.) Apparently, some people can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.

Yes, well, the teacher assumed they didn't think it was a replica, maybe because he himself didn't know. Either way, he was basically threatening to kill them. Doesn't get much more complicated than that.

It's fake, we know.

But they could use it for another reason like what if it was used in bullying and they really kill those people who had their names written on it? lol, stupid it may sound but it's possible.
They used it anyway with the intent of wanting to really kill the person but cant do so, so they just release their inner 4th grade syndrome.

Ugh, not another one of these stories. At least no one got hurt because of it.

It's the reverse this time around though. Instead of students threatening their teachers with writing their names into a Death Note, now it's a teacher threatening his students, which personally is hilarious.

Don't you remember? Death Notes change their appearances to reflect whatever is the dominant form of writing at the time. If tablets are overtaking writing things on paper, then a Death Note is going to take the form of a tablet!

As long as there are angsty but ambitious teenagers in the world, there will be people who will identify with Light Yagami, and Death Note will remain in the public consciousness.

In this case, it is "Oh, how the tablets have turned."

If it were high school/college students that are likely to know or atleast heard of the series I can see this not being a big deal, but elementary school students...? At least some of them are going to actually believe it.

Yeah, it is inappropiate what he did. But there is always the chance, he did it as a means of keeping the children in the school system, vice them getting kicked out.

In America, we always have those kids that don't want to be in school, and do everything possible to make everyone else's life miserable.

Maybe, but death threats don't seem like the best way to do that. I don't know about you, but if I were in school and the teacher threatened to kill me, I would want to be in school less not more, even if one might stay despite that. And again, death threats, especially against elementary schoolers, are extremely inappropriate no matter their effectiveness.

I agree with you. I could be 100% wrong about the teacher's motivation.
