I've recently been on an OOP manga splurge. I've bought all of After School Nightmare, The Flower of Life, and Her Majesty's Dog.

And this indeed makes you incredibly awesome, enjoy! Flower of Life is one of my favorite series ever and my favorite Fumi Yoshinaga. After School Nightmare is weird but good. I've not read the third one though. If you don't already have all the Yoshinaga now, this will make you want to get all the Yoshinaga.

Her Majesty's Dog is excellent. High School, supernatural, romance and intrigue. It is the first place I ran into the concept of kodama, the idea that words have power. I really miss Go Comi they had a lot of really good titles.

I've been meaning to buy all three for a while, but have held off for multiple reasons (price, what else I was buying at the time). I've been consistently keeping under my entertainment budget each month for the year, so I've decided to splurge a bit this month. Also, I found some good used copies on ebay for reasonable prices.

I got the 4th volume of Flower of Life for $25 on ebay, which I consider a good deal since whenever I checked previously it was around $50. Once I bought that, I got the rest of the volumes from Right Stuf.

I got the other two series for $50 each from different users on ebay. The person who's selling ASN has even kept each volume within its own plastic sleeve. I won't be keeping those, but at least I know they've been taken well care of.

I recently bought and read All My Darling Daughters and have been on a Yoshinaga kick. I want to start buying What Did You Eat Yesterday? next. I tried Ooku a few years ago, but disliked the Shakespearean language. I always thought her drawing style was pretty, but I have no desire to read in ye olde tongue.

Got an £20 Amazon voucher from my brother as a birthday present so bought Citrus 1-2 and Gakuen Polizi 2.

And in town earlier I bought Demon From Afar 2, What Did You Eat Yesterday 8, Love at Fourteen 2, Midnight Secretary 7, XXXHolic Rei 3 and He's My Only Vampire 2.

I also picked up Angelic Layer 5 in Japanese from a second hand bookstore. It cost me the grand sum of £2.

I also find Ooku rather difficult to read, but once I did, it is good stuff. you should try volume 1 at least, which takes place before time goes back to the start of the disease, it stands ok on its own.
Also, I don't usually go for yaoi (of any sort), but you should still get her things. Her yaoi is sexy without the sex, which is mostly there for cheesecake (and not that much of it). You can skip the sex scenes if you wish and still get a damn sexy series. Gerard & Jacques is my favorite of her yaoi series, it has all her signature humor and character too. You can still buy both of them on RightStuf too. Ichigenme is another good choice for that and I think Rightstuf also sells Garden of Dreams (which I don't think is yaoi, even though it was published under June I think?)

Ooku is the only Fumi series in English I don't yet own. It's on my to-buy list once I've finished a few others. I went on a massive hunt for them all about 2 years ago. Tamaria was a great help there, I'll always be grateful to her.

So with the announcement on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Season 1 coming to domestic DVD, I found some stashed away money and picked up all 9 of the JP LE Blu-rays for Part 1 and 2 from Amazon. Somehow just found out they had English subtitles (where have I been??) and they are a much better investment than what I expect to be a cheap dvd release from Warner.

Too bad the Stardust Crusaders Blu's do not have subtitles as well.

A gauche question for you, geishageek, but I'll ask it anyway: how much did getting those 9 volumes cost you? It's something I'd consider doing myself if I wouldn't have to sell a kidney on the black market to afford...

No worries Blood-! I actually spent less than I though, as I solely used Amazon.com and 6 out of the 9 sets were Prime. After all was said and done, my total of $581. 38.

5 sets were $69.99 (highest price available but I wanted the Prime option for peace of mind)
1 set was $65.99 (paid $3.99 shipping)
1 set was $58.50 (prime shipping)
1 set was $43.58 (paid the $3.99 for shipping)
last set was 51.39 (paid $3.99 for shipping)

Besides the 6 Prime, I choose the cheapest 'New' versions (from sellers with 95% of better feedback) for the other 3.

I've never ordered from Amazon.jp so I cannot say how expensive shipping is to the US (or Canada is your case), but it looks like their total before shipping would be about 46,320 yen.

Thanks for the detail, geishageek, appreciate it. Your info confirms what I already suspected: looks like its gonna be the WB DVD-only set for me...oh to be wealthy instead of just being outrageously pretty...

Your most welcome. I dug into my house buying money I've been saving for years, so wealth has nothing to do with it haha

Wakfu finally showed up. A pleasant surprise!

was that through Amazon US? please correct me if I'm mistaken on that.

Amazon JP plus Global Priority (DHL with tracking #) shipping costs for those nine blu-ray sets is $30.32 USD total, and the price for all nine volumes including shipping: $396.55 USD (as of this post it's JPY 45,764 for the nine individual volumes).

If I spent more time I could probably lower that total by finding a reseller that ships internationally and is selling a used or even new volume for less than what Amz JP offers?

If this was 2007, which was when I first started buying from Amz JP I wouldn't have been able to say this, it took me forever to order anything from them and the shipping was more expensive - FF to 2015 and with the use of google chrome and their translator... it's now just as easy for me to buy from Amz JP as it is Amz US. Not perfect of course, nothing ever is, but still fairly painless when compared to how I used to do it -with Japanese/English dictionary in hand.

looks like I've missed quite a bit here, sorry for the late replies folks.

I was willing to let Anime Sols rest in peace specifically because they fulfilled what I had paid for. As far as I know they did this for everyone who paid into the system. I gather this is not universal behavior.

As far as the love for older show goes, if the market is not there it is just not there. The only thing I signed up for was the Creamy Mami series. While it is a fun series in small doses I probably wouldn't have bothered with a similar show.

I have the 2001 version of The Anime Encyclopedia. I got it shortly after the release of Fancy Lala. Their entire entry on the series was to the effect that it was simply a rehash of Creamy Mami. As I remember they said much the same thing about a couple of other magical girl shows. I found this seriously irritating as Creamy Mami was not at the time legally available and as it turns out would not be for over a decade. So when Creamy Mami became available I more or less had to get it. Laughing Other older shows, not so much.

I managed to get the fat case set of Fancy Lala - and I've yet to get past the guy wearing the hat and glasses. First time I saw him he reminded me of Battle Angel and Claymore. He's just weird to me. So who knows when or even if I'll give it another shot. Way too much other stuff screaming at me to get going with.

As for the everyone getting what they paid for, are you referring to Kickstarter's "The Crater" did everyone that contributed to that just get a 3rd degree burn to their beehinies or what? Have not received any kind of communication from them for a looong time.

Although at present I have received everything that I've pledged for from Animesols 'cept for Vol 2 of Black Jack. Got my artwork and story boards for Dear Brother, artwork for Black Jack, as well as a lunch bag of Creamy Mami collectibles. Some of which only made sense after I started watching it.

@ lem - DENKI-GAI may be a blind buy for you, but I think you'll dig it. It's a little hard to tell because comedy is so subjective and just because the show cracked me up doesn't mean it'll work for you. I'd love to own the LEs but they are too rich for my blood, so I'm waiting to see if Ponycan will "pony up" a cheaper standard edition sometime later. (I'd also love to own their Yuki Yuna Is a Hero releases, but the too rich, my blood thing still applies.)

And I would have loved to have had the option of buying a standard edition! If they survive in R1 I really hope they are able to address this lack of choice. I know it's their business but I still think it's rather lame of them to just discount an entire segment of the market right from jump. But you're definitely right about it being enjoyable for me (despite my not having a clue about "eros" type manga and the various genres for it). I'm glad I'm able to watch it on blu now.

have also actually managed to thoroughly enjoy a few other things that I've received lately - Non Non Biyori, Silver Spoon, & Space Brothers have all now become favorites of mine.

Non Non for the country side atmosphere they were able to convey, the character Renge-chan in general. spoiler[Her new found friend leaving without saying goodbye? anime gold right there. totally relate to this one. That and rabbit fishing. you really can't beat that. A first grader with wisdom beyond their years?] And of course Nanoripe, and really just the music overall.

Silver Spoon. I don't know if I can ever recall seeing an anime show that managed to instantly be as fun, educational and kinda sad all at once spoiler[ the fact that they cared and respected the audience enough to include the unpleasant fact that farms can and do fail really only served to make it that much more special to me.] Any show that manages to entertain, inform and remind of what's important needs to be imitated and regurgitated until all of the writers of the anime 'verse can come up with a new label for it. This one will surely be remembered for being something more than just cow porn. For the love of pork bowls everywhere it just has to. Seriously.

And so far, since I only have the first two sets of Space Brothers, it's primarily due to rollin' Mutta's internal dialog. As both an older and a younger brother myself, this is one very easy to relate to character. Total bromance thing for me here.

So yes I went looking for, found, and recently bought most of the CDs to go with these three shows.

The yen total was what I calculated from Amazon.jp as I was typing that message for all new products. Prices do change all day long so it very well could have adjusted some prices since I did the calculations (just did it from their prices now and it comes up as 45637 yen this time, so just a little cheaper later in the day and a couple bucks cheaper than what you saw lunch time)

Sure I overpaid by using Amazon.com, but it really was for peace of mind knowing I will have 6 in hand on Monday. I tend to have the worst luck when ordering things from JP that do not come from AmiAmi, so I will pay extra for the assurance it will get here in one piece.
