Good news for fans of the series. I didn't expect it would get a sequel.

This was the first thing I read when I wake up this morning. I'm *so* happy.

This really has made my day! Now, the only other news that would get me this thrilled would be if someone announced the licensing of the series in the states!!! (Not holding my breath for the manga lol)

Awesome news. Loved the first season and definitively want to see more.
And I wouldn't give up on the manga just yet. Vertical is doing a licensing survey on their Facebook, and Chihayafuru is currently #5 (FWIW, #1 is Princess Jellyfish). If you've got a FB account, go vote for it.

One my favorites from 2011!! I can't wait!!!
Now if only someone would license season 1 for the US or the manga. |
If you go to Vertical's Facebook page, they're running a poll on what manga to license next year. Chihayafuru is currently in fifth place. (I think you have to like them in order to see the poll.)

Yay, I loved the first season! It was one of the best anime I've seen in some time. Can't wait for season 2

Excellent news ~ either the series moved a lot of the back catalog of manga, or sold a whole hell of a lot of notebook covers, or both.

Of course it helps when the only companies grabbing titles aren't FUNi and Sentai. My money's on Sentai if anyone. |
If Sentai and Funi passes, I'd not be surprised if Nozomi/RightStuf picked it up.

Thanks for the info! But if I remember correctly, someone did ask him about it on Twitter a little while ago, and his response, while not totally shooting it down, wasn't too positive either (memory's really fuzzy). Hopefully this poll will show the interest, although I think he also did say that they're avoiding long series at this point.

I posted this in Retail in the Vertical thread, but yeah, no long series. Although I'm not sure what he considers a long series.
Deb Aoki on twitter summed up Vertical's "No" list:
No titles created before 2000. (Ed reports they are phasing out the classics line)
No long series. (not sure what "long" means)
Nothing from Akita Shoten.
Nothing from Shueisha or Shogakukan.
No novels.
No Go Nagai.
