Well, I quite liked the first episode of IS.

Being generic has its good sides: I know exactly what I'll get from the very first episode. Things I didn't like were the teacher, his abusive sister and CGI used on people (man I HATE that!). But then I love his childhood friend, whos obviously all over him + she is really cute. I also like guy's reactions, especially him begging to be let back into the room he just escaped. Don't know what to think about blondie yet. Oh and I hope to see more of the girl in cat pajama.

Overall, so far, the positives out weight the negatives so I'll keep watching. Lets hope that ratio remains.

As far as I know, the second episode has not been aired yet (as of this post, episode two is five days five hours from simply being aired let alone fansubbed). Therefore, I've seen just as much as you or anyone else has, and following on from that, I don't see how you can claim to know more about what was actually aired than I do.

If someone comes into a discussion thread after, say, four episodes had aired and only talking about episode one, then yeah, you would have a point. I wouldn't know from first hand experience if the series had gotten worse, better, or stayed the same.

But as previously stated, only one episode has aired. Saying that I've somehow unknowingly forfeited my right to talk about what was wrong with the only episode anyone has actually watched . . . well, I'm under Moderation, so I'm not sure I can say what I really want to, but I think you get my point.

Yes it's still kind of early for this particular series. Still the point remains that you're still posting in a thread for a series that you've dropped and wasted your time when you could have been doing something more productive.

What's interesting to me about this series is that even though the first eppie contains a lot of very shopworn elements (as already noted by myself and others) it nonetheless engaged me. Not sure why that is other than, in my case, I guess there is some sort of "X" factor at work that is elevating the sum of the show above its familiar parts.

Yeah , I agree that probably does sum it up the best way. it actually has draw factor.

After the first episode, this show is a big pile of MEH. Nothing special, nothing really engaging. I'll probably watch episode 2, but if it doesn't pick up and just does the same stuff as this episode did, I'll drop it.

Blood-, the condition where something is more than the sum of its parts is called "gestalt". Who said .hack//SIGN was boring (that's where I learnt the term from)?

Well, I looked up spoilers on Wikipedia, and it has not deviated in the slightest from what I expected based on promotional videos and images alone, let alone actually watching the episode. Sometimes people who predict the future just get it right; it doesn't take a degree in meteorology to know that if the pressure drops and the sky is filled with cumulonimbus clouds, then it is likely to rain.

I didn't want to stir up trouble in the first place, and I believe I've made my point pretty clearly, so this will be my last post in this thread.

So far i am enjoying this anime. Might be one of my favorite animes released in Winter 2011. Another reason why i like it is because Yoko Hikasa plays the voice of Houki and sings the ending theme.

This series is definitely not very original. That said, I really enjoyed this episode. I don't know why, but I found the dude to be really amusing. The only thing that bothers me is the premise. "These were for going out into space, but then we wanted to use it for war, and then that wasn't allowed, so we decided to make it a sport and build a high school for training people to pilot these" I don't get why they would build a high school for a sport, but maybe that's just me.

I hope we get to learn more about the previous uses (which is unlikely, really.) as well as the reasoning why only females and the main character can operate them...

I'm really excited to see the next episode to see more of the suits in use. I hope the main character continues to make me laugh.

Alright, alright. I was one of the ones giving this a fair shake after the first episode. I'm not going to all-out bash it or anything; it's just that episode two went "so-predictable-it's-laugh-out-loud-funny" mode on me. Can't decide whether to drop this one along with Beezelbub or to keep watching for the unintentional laughs.

If you're one of the ones that decided to drop this after the first episode and want a quick run-down, feel free to read. Otherwise this is just for my amusement.

spoiler[I mean, we knew Ichika was the only male on earth that could pilot an IS, right?. It turns out he's even more unique and needs a custom made IS. Coincidentally, all IS' are the brainchild of his childhood friend's big sister! Which of course compliments his sister who was once a world-famous IS hero and is now something like his homeroom teacher. The other busty glasses-character instructor, of course, goes into "kyuuu" la-la land when the class asks her a question about IS' being similar to boyfriends and girlfriends. Unbelievably, she has no romantic experience!

During the mock IS fight to secure his position as class representative, he of course "powers up"! It turns out he was fighting close to equally with rich girl at only half power! My goodness! He emerges from the cinder & smoke unscathed, ready to unleash his full potential. Oh no! He "loses" the battle for... class representative due to insufficient knowledge only to have the rich girl fall in love with him with that very day. Childhood friend #1 continues to realize how deep her feelings are for the clueless boy she hasn't seen in 6 years. He now needs to read an IS manual... but as expected of our hero-to-be; he still hates reading! What a bother!

And that's not all! The episode 3 preview, in grand fashion, lets us in on the fact that another childhood friend of his (who lazily enough looks almost exactly like the first childhood friend except she has a fang and a different ribbon color) will be transferring into his school. What kind of hijinks will ensue? Do you think she'll be in love with the only boy in school as well?! The suspense!]

While it was full of predictable moments in Episode 2, I honestly enjoyed it. I've seen so much cliche stuff that it doesn't bother me as much now, and I pretty much figured that he would have girls falling for him (well, it seemed obvious that he would have harem in his situation.) I was looking forward this episode mainly for the mecha battle, and it was fairly decent. I'm not impressed, but I'm enjoying it for what it is. I would say it's good for what it has offered us, for now.

You somewhat like Freezing, but not this? IMO both animes are fundamentally the same. A boy surrounded by buxom girls xcept no fking. Just a lot of teasing.

Anyhow, IS was funny especially the bra scene. Not an echhi specialist, but the way he said,"Hmm...you are starting to wear a bra." Was funny, if not, IS's humor is unique and a little amusing. Most echhi's I've seen, if boy gets bra, boy gets jacked and that lame physical humor is suppose to be funny. Hopefully IS's humor will be more witty.

Anyhow, its only 12 episodes and without a doubt, the story here is redundant and obvious. The anime will be average at best. Furthermore, you don't look at a harem anime for a deep plot lol. Seriously people you are looking in the wrong place. All this anime is going to be (like most harem), gags, sex jokes, panty shots, boobs, blushing, oh yeah and boobs. Every harem anime tries to make itself different by adding something different to the formula. What makes IS different is that they throw gundam into the mix (so Japanese) so, IS has the following:

-gags
-sex jokes
-panty shots
-boobs
-blushing
-more boobs
-then out of nowhere Gundam
-Awesome idea

I say watch first 3 episodes and see if the anime progresses. Logically, you can't just drop or give up on an anime without giving it a chance. That's a quitter's habit. The first episode is the attention grabber. Clearly, they failed. However you are anime fans. The next couple of episodes will be the actual anime/ when the real story begins. After 3 episodes you should get a feel for what the anime is about in it's entirety. Actually watch the show before calling quits. Personally, I hope this anime will use witty humor. It's only 60 mins of ur life. I'm sure you all have time to give the anime a chance.

I'm going to assume that wasn't meant for me, because I remember saying I was not interested in Freezing (on the Freezing thread.) I have to rewatch Freezing to understand it, since I remember being bored out of mind while watching it.

I'm actually going to be watching this whole series no matter what, because I'm a huge fan of mecha. IMO, it's turning out good for what I would call an average show. It's different from most of the harems I've seen, and it doesn't give "super-fanservice" (actually, there was barely any fanservice tbh), but some witty jokes. I honestly really like this show, and it's probably one of my top favorites of this season so far. It's very entertaining to me. As for the rest of your post, I agree with it.

Actually, that part was for vasto, but take it how you want. Sort of speaks to everyone who just wants to give up or hinted that they'll drop it.

I won't tell you how to spend your free time if you don't tell me how to spend mine. Wink Waiting for something to "get good" when the opening episodes are bad is generally an exercise in frustration. Just a matter of personal taste. The fact that somebody gets paid to write this stuff would blow my mind if not for the legions of people who apparently gobble the stuff up.

As for the Freezing bit - I gave it a fair shake after the first episode just like I did this one. The fact that I pointed out things that I found to be predictable/silly hardly translates to - "This show sucks and Freezing is great!". Luckily, this season looks to have a large number of solid titles to keep up with regardless of how this big screen action-dating-sim turns out.
