God I sure hope shows like Negima and Ichigo Mashimaro don't go anywhere as they actually happen to be good shows (and its not as if any of the Negima fanservice actually involves Negi but rather his harem of unquestionably hot schoolgirls.) I wonder if Zac has even watched them before passing such ridiculous judgement. Ditto for the mangas.
Really now, getting all righteous at the mere idea of kids doing anything that could even remotely be taken the wrong way reeks of backwards conservativism. Even Class 5-2 is pretty damn funny and nothing more sinister than a little ecchi with younger characters. Even if a show was completely unabashedly lolicon, there is nothing wrong with people liking whatever they wish to like, not in any free society anyhow. And so long as that remains so, there will an audience, hence profit to be made and hence a product. Not to mention that the whole Moe deal is more of an ideal of innocence than some raunchy sexual fetish. |

The point is a huge amount of media attention is focused on internet exploitation of children, when in reality only 3%-5% of molesters are "strangers." No one talks about how to solve the much larger problem of molestation by known adults. Instead of teaching children how to avoid being molested, and what to do if someone attempts to molest them, we give ineffective advice such as "don't talk to strangers" or "fear myspce." I find that truly sickening. |

Just to chime in, I find Today in Class 5-2 hilarious, but then thats regardless of the characters being children. Some of you should already know how I feel about paedophillic hentai but when it's something like this it's inuuendo and abstract, what they are doing is, in the minds of the characters (except Ryouta) innocent.
I agree that shouting out from the rooftops that you love little children in sexual situations is not such a great idea, but I see nothing wrong with watching a show in which fantasy people engage in sexual inuuendo as long as it's done plausibly (infact that makes it funnier, if it were implausible then it wouldn't be funny) And I really wouldn't like to meet someone who would actually masturbate to this show...I'll admit when I was watching it the thought that anyone could be doing that didn't even cross my mind... |

about lolicon:
What exactly is the appeal of lolicon? Is it just a fetish, or the innocence? *shrugs* To me, this stuff is creepy. esp. since i'm a teenager. about Naruto: Isn't Naruto a tween/teen show anyways? It's just the standards in Japan and America are different. What is culturally excepted for young kids to watch in america is different that in Japan. Many fans of Naruto, japan or other asian countries i find are mostly younger kids anyways. |

Ugh, that thing has annoyed me to death. Don't want to talk about it anymore, 4chan is going crazy over this thing. I think it's bullshit and will not have any effect (since the law already existed anyway, this is just restating it). My LJ can show you my opinion on it. As far as the loli thing with Zac... meh, it was to be expected. I know you don't like moe so a rant about loli doesn't really surprise me as most people wrongfully place them in the same category anyway. Obviously I completely disagree with you on this, not that what I've said before is going to change anyone's opinions though (and yet, I still haven't seen any logical counter argument for it). Eh, I saw several episodes of Strawberry Marshmallow earlier this year and I didn't really see anything creepy about it. It just seemed like harmless, cute slice-of-life. Even a bathhouse scene wasn't really any more salacious than the bath scene in My Neighbour Totoro. I know the whole show plays into the idealized "innocent little sister" archetype, but I didn't even see anything even borderline suggestive the way there is in a handful of shots in Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S (a show I have and enjoy, but for the comedy). |

Am I the first one to notice that Zac put his personal loli rant and a Negima picture in the same column?

You are making a huge leap there by citing Kyou No Go No Ni as an example. Nobody is being raped in that show, and it's supposed to be a comedy. I do think it is a little inappropriate given the supposed ages of the characters, but it is still a farcry from "children being raped." I have not seen Ichigo Marshmallow or Bottle Fairy, but going by the responses from some posters so far I am going to guess there's nothing coming even close to rape in those anime. I wonder if I should feel dirty for enjoying Honey and Clover. Hagu doesn't look like she's older than 10 and there are TWO out of college guys lusting over her! |

Sorry I'm a little late jumping into this, but just how extreme 'hentai-wise' is Kite?
Basically I've got that and the Mezzo series + OVA on order. They looked a bit fan-service heavy but if it goes beyond that, they wouldn't be something I'd enjoy and I'd rather waste my money on something else. |

Lolita con does scare me as well. I hope if I ever call someone's child 'cute' it'll simply mean THAT, instead of "I wanna molest them". There's a fine line between cute shows and lolita shows. Cardcaptor Sakura was cute and a lot of magical girls shows are cute despite the "fetish"-style clothing, but then you have Strawberry Marshmallow which has subtle but definetely THERE lolita.

Yeah, but you sort of launched yourself into a hyper-self-defense mode. I don't think (from reading that one post alone and not the rest of the thread) that anyone was specifically going to beat down on you (though it may and probably would have happened), but whatever. As for Loli, I used to be of the mind that "ruh, it's terrible illegal etc!!" and then I stopped caring. The truth is that anyone who is going to actually cause harm to children were probably messed up to begin with, and if it wasn't Lolicon that bought it out, then it would have been something else. Not that I like nor condone it, but I'm hardly going to go spastic on anyone happens to say they enjoy it. Then again I generally don't keep the sort of company that would enjoy it, so I guess I'm safe . My main problem with Lolicon and Moe is that well, as it gains popularity, there'll be less money for titles I like, which will lead to less titles being made that I like, and then it actually affecting properties that I like, like Transformers. Started off with ordinary Binaltech, which was great, but then they wanted to get more of an Anime market, so they threw in women. Didn't like that, but whatever. Now there's full-blown loli-models being sold with them and it's just very unnessecary, because they're obviously in sexual positions and what not. I want to buy these toys, but I don't want to support a market that I try my hardest to avoid. |

After reading through this thread, a thought came up that adds on to this question made earlier. If it isn't too much trouble, I was wondering if you guys could help clear this up for me. Is a "Lolita Complex" different from lolicon? My general understanding of a lolita complex is someone who is attracted to young girls with young faces on more mature bodies. (i.e. the kubrick film, Lolita) I'm also guessing that lolicon is a term mostly used for japanese porn involving young girls with immature bodies. In other words young girls built like young girls. Please correct me if either of these terms are inaccurate, as my definitions are pretty vague. However, I was wondering if young-faced girls with mature bodies are also included in the definition of lolicon. In other words to restate the question in the quote, would such material be as inappropriate as lolicon is? |

So yeah, in a sense, your kinda right. Like how Char Aznable is accused by some fans of having Ephebophilia. |
