Judging by this thread, there are a few of us 'morons' Laughing

It's not bad, I've seen much worse (To Love-Ru, anyone?) but you can't take it too seriously. If you treat it for what it is, a light-hearted teenage comedy based around the theme of getting laid, then you can laugh along with the jokes. I normally don't like this sort of thing and I used to write stuff like this off (just as you have) but I've mellowed in my old age and I give things more of a chance these days.

Heck, it's better than Kampfer, so it's alright by me.

You've misunderstood my post. Both the series I mentioned I DIDN'T enjoy.

Anyway, enough derailment. On with discussion of B Gata H Kei.

Gosh, Dork_knight, nobody here asked what somebody with completely shitty taste thinks of this show, but thanks for playing.

Right, this is a bit of a fansub question, so sorry if it offends (how else would you be watching this series otherwise, though?), but:

The group whose subs I'm watching are good, good quality and I've never had reason to question the translations before. But episode 7 had me thinking... (Obscenities ahead, don't uncover if swearing offends you) spoiler[Specifically the scenes where a) Yamada gets beaten in the swimming race "fudge fuckidy fudge fudge"? and b) The mother announces she has watermelon... "Hai" is translated as 'Aww Shit!"]
(edit: heh, got smooshed by the language filter a bit there!)

Surprisingly, I think as inaccurate as they are, they kinda match the tone of the series well and I laughed my ass off after the spoiler[watermelon translation.]. Considering the quality of this group's subs usually, i'm pretty certain these are on purpose and I'll be damned if they're not enhancing the experience for me a little bit.

I wonder if other groups are as liberal in their translations Laughing

Back to series discussion, I do enjoy seeing Yamada wrestling with her emotions and being in complete denial about how she feels for Kosuda. Of course, this being B Gata H Kei, spoiler[almost as quickly as she has a moment of insight, she finds a porn mag Twisted Evil]

Hopefully I've not broken any of teh rules with this post Embarassed

^ Not that I speak a lot of Japanese... but I'm pretty sure that's not what she said... I think what she said comes out to spoiler["dang" it].

I watched a fan-subbed one also and I really don't remember hearing spoiler[Christina Aguilera] when she was spoiler[talking about how beautiful she was] either so... I'm not sure why they did it, but it was definitely annoying.

I enjoyed ep 7 a lot actually. Loved the airgun stuff. For some reason I'm reminded of Sore no Otoshimono and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu. Anime smile

I did like the episode but spoiler[ those subs were incredibly stupid. And it had to have been on purpose too. That was a serious dick move]

Anyway, I did like the "POWER IS JUSTICE!"

Yeah, I noticed the dubious subs, too. Is this is what is called "troll subs?" Not a fan. Anyway, I still found the show entertaining. It still amazes me how much "trouble" Yamada is having getting poor old Kosuda in the sack considering he's good to go. Being involved with a beautiful neurotic is your basic good news/bad news scenario.

Oh yes, so I was not the only one who realised some purposly dubious translations, well I am not one for swearing, so I find it a bit annoying, and not helping my opinion. Well at least it was not as bad as the first sub release of K-ON! if anyone remembers that, or as I would say improved first episode of Elemental Hunters.

Anyway it was fun, especially how Kosuda does not think things through, spoiler[she decided to walk there, and then after decideing to hitchhike got picked up by army nuts.] Actually probably one of the more enjoyable parts yet. I also enjoy how the other characters able to tell characters of for showing off, or that she could not come up with a redeeming characteristic. Oh and pokeing it with a stick, why was that enjoyable.

No, this would be what is called "creative license". A troll sub would be, for example, what Dattebayo did for an episode of Soul Eater way back when, where they replaced all the story/dialogue with whatever they wanted independent of what actually happened in the episode.

Ah, thanks Sorce. I'd seen the term troll sub before but never really knew what it meant. Sometimes a fansubber taking "creative license" can make me laugh. I saw a fansub of Cross Game a little while ago where, during the OP, an arrow pointed to an image of Aoba (the female lead for those not familiar with the series) and what was clearly supposed to be one of Kitamura's (the male lead) thoughts popped up: "I'll be hitting that soon." Considering the squeaky clean tone of the show, that cracked me up.

The extra bits added in can be funny. For a recent pandora Hearts special the subbers put subtitles for a cat which was only makeing cat noises, there is something funny about a cat saying "wazzup".

Or if I remember properly Chobits subbed a cow saying "moo" a and did a translation note saying "moo means moo".

Since this doesn't seem to be streaming from anywhere, where are all you guys watching this from? Torrent downloads or something?

Personally I'm willing to wait for a R1 DVD to be published, but I'm just curious. I used to run a torrent client but not anymore.

Is this the group whose opinion of themselves is in their name? I realized their subs were off in the first episode and haven't gone back since. Another group puts out subs just as quickly and goes for a more literal translation.

Although I guess the liberal translations can keep things interesting. And I have to admit I'm getting a little bored with the show. When you have to agree with the friend that can't think of a good quality for Yamada you have to worry. Sure, she's funny and cute, and not really malicious, but she doesn't have any great personality traits and apparently has nothing in common with Kosuda.

And I don't really like it when a show goes rushing through time so ridiculously fast, sacrificing actual daily interpersonal development. Instead we're only given big event episodes, holidays, festivals, summer break, etc. 7 episodes in and we're already to the summer break of their Junior year? You'd think she's already have given up on her 100 guy goal after wasting an entire year. You'd think after meeting some goal, they'd want to move faster instead of waiting a month or two until the next holiday comes around, so they could maybe kiss again. At this rate Yamada's condoms will expire before she even sees a pen!s.

I'm reluctant to go deep into a fansub group discussion because we all know it's a potential minefield, and a series discussion thread is certainly no place to cross said minefield... But I was referring to the group that's also subbing K-On!! at the moment. The subs for K-On!! have always been spot on as far as I can tell, and they're a good group, which is why I was surprised after this episode's shenanigans.
