4. Considering that YTV approached Toei directly for this series, I have a suspicion that YTV may had originally wanted to get the Sailor Moon license back but were denied as a result of the ongoing dispute between Toei and Naoko Takeuchi. So, Pretty Cure may had been the next best thing for YTV.
That said, I'm looking forward to the series premiere and seeing how the dub is handled. |
It may have been the other way around. Toei Animation had been trying to get "Pretty Cure" on North American T.V. for a long time, I don't know how long but at least only a few years, and girls' cartoons have been a difficult sell on American T.V. Toei Animation has recently been in the business of producing North American versions of their shows themselves, as with "Bobobobo" and "Digimon Data Squad" and I think they're doing the same with "Pretty Cure", they've already made an English dub of it to use as a pitch. I actually suggested to a contact I have from Toei Animation that since things are difficult with American T.V. to focus on getting it on Canadian T.V. since "Sailor Moon" did so well there. I'm now wondering if this announcement is a coincidence.
Anyway still a pleasent surprise, since both Cartoon Network and YTV seem to be cutting down on anime lately. Still wondering what's with the name changes though. Hopefully Toei Animation can convince YTV to pick up the FUNi dub of "One Piece".

So the only question remains is who will do the voices of Natalie and Hannah and if they'll do the dubbings in New York City, or save some money and have voice stars from Toronto do it at Optimum Productions?

I'm hoping for the latter. I liked their treatment of Sailor Moon S and Super S.

No, PLEASE! Not Cloverway! Hearing Linda Ballantyne's imitation of Terri Hawkes' Serena still leaves a bad taste in my mouth to this day!

I really hate dub hater, no offenese. Pretty Cute does aim for young girls.
Pretty Cure will be a Canadian Dub like Card Captors, Beyblade, Metabots, Spider Riders, and Bakugan.
Canada had air all the episodes of the dub Card Captors in order unlike KidsWB in 2000 who skipped that seven episode and start with the 8th, the reason was to let it aim for boys viewers. It been considers that the most the Kids WB viewers was boys
I been wanting to see Pretty Cure when I first heard about. May had watch thye sub unitl that dub come to the U.S.

Somehow I doubt it could possibly be THAT bad. There's no male characters to make into lead characters in this show, so at least the English dub won't skip ahead to episode 8. I'd hope. (God, Cardcaptors I think takes the cake for how bad a dub company can screw up a show...)

These cases, it's not about the show itself, guys.
It's about the toys, merchandise, license fees, what's marketable to consumers, to retailers to stock the merchandise, etc.
As for America, "shoujo" is dead on American TV.
CN has long dissolved Miguzi, while W.I.T.C.H. was relegated to upper-tier Toon Disney. The only one still airing "shoujo" is, ironically enough, 4Kids with the Winx Club continuation. Who would've thought them to be the torch-bearer?
