I'll say Gankutsuou didn't have that effect on me. Now "A Scanner Darkly" on the otherhand, that one gave me headaches.

It's best I cut to the chase: What's the romance like? I've yet to read the book, so I've no idea how strong some of the relationships are. I too suffer from motion sickness. Growing up near a hilly (if somewhat pleasant) National Park made for some unpleasant journeys. |

Plenty of that, if that's what you're into. 
It's in space, but it's still the kind of Western society where arranged marriages within aristocracy, for instance, are still common. I don't really want to say too much, but obviously such scenarios act as a springboard for various feelings and romantic scenarios. Barrel loads of nuance.
