ouh yes.
the soundtrack bits sound awesome. this could actually be one of the few examples of anime not having characters either sing generic and boring songs or play in some high school light music club.
the only other example that springs to mind is ghost hound(makoto is one HELL of a guitar player).
and while we're on the subject of music: when, oh when will someone finally make solanin into an anime? the live action movie seems to be dead...

But there's very little singing in Jazz, especially the varieties that would be garnering acclaim in the 1960s.
The summaries I've seen for this would push more into the appreciation field, rather than actually involving playing music. Oh, and a love triangle. Can't leave that out of there.

Really? No Beck, Black Heaven, even Nodame Cantabile?

i was just going by general representations of someone actually performing some bit of music in an anime, and most times i've only seen characters sing crappy songs to sell cds.
as for this one: i'm simply psyched about the part with the drum solo, regardless of how much of this stuff we're actually going to see in the finished series.

can't say that i've seen any of these(yet), but i'll make sure to check them out soon as i get my hands on them.

This reminds me of Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. Set in the 1960s, with jazz instead of rock.
If they keep the BL angle to a minimum, I'm game.
Plus: YOKO KANNO!!!!
