To my knowledge, he does, and he spends his offline time trying to passively find a "sweetheart." He's been banned from a few of them when it became clear he was using them to solicit sex though.

But there are others for which that is the whole point.

I like how everyone just ignored Clyde's second response because that's some Hitler shiz right there. xD
The best sort of comments are the ones where you can't tell whether they're trolling or they have totalitarian ambitions.

I am not a woman (obviously), but I am a queer man who enjoys this classic trope and who has used it in several of the yaoi/BL works I have written.
The appeal, at least to me, is the drama potential of the ostensibly-straight guy putting up a front that the other character must break down (at which point the first guy admits that he was gay/bi all the time, just in denial). It also has a sense of wish fulfillment: us queer guys have all probably crushed on straight friends and classmates before, and the thought of one of them actually being queer deep down inside themselves is simply appealing.
Of course, yaoi is for women, who may not be into this trope for the same reasons as queer men. But that's my viewpoint on the matter.

Basically, if a straight guy falls in love with a man through sheer force of the other's winning personality (or other reasons relating to actual interaction between two love interests), suddenly we're now reading a story where "who this person IS" is so attractive that it can override even hard-wired sexual attraction. Not only that, but if you then add sexual attraction to the mix, suddenly we're reading a story where a personality is so attractive, it can even cause sexual attraction where it would never be otherwise... |
@musouka, I just wanted to say that I found your comment (including the part I cut to save space) really got to the heart of why this trope exists, at least in my opinion. I’ve tried to say this in my talks, but you put it so well.

@Chagen46, Thank you for your take on this trope from a different perspective. The wish fulfillment part really makes sense.

Why do girls love Yaoi?
No, I dont exactly picture myself as the "uke" or the main character in a Yaoi story but because I've already seen alot of straight xerox copy typical Shoujo titles out there that I've grown yoo tired of it(but shoujo's still d best)... It's refreshing to read a new kind of romance.
I often hear some people say that GirlXBoy relationship is too typical so why not try BoyXBoy, it's kinda refreshing.
