Yes, I don't think that data is accurate because I don't believe those reporting their hours were being honest. As leafy sea dragon said, I think a lot of people in Japan work unreported hours, and probably quite a few of them. In the US, we're pretty determined to get paid for the work we do, so we make sure our hours are accurately counted. As I understand it, most American employees leave soon after their shifts end, but many Japanese stay around so as to not leave before their boss leaves. I have heard this from so many different sources that I'm pretty firmly convinced of its accuracy.

It appears Japan's Government aren't too happy about the negative publicity and are showing that they are doing something about it.
