Actually, unless I'm mistaken kokusai means "International."

Is there a website yet for this project? It sounds awesome.

That's right: 国際 (kokusai) means "international".

The only other meaning of kokusai, using other kanji, that I know of, is 国債, meaning "national debt".

O.O That's awesome! Does it contain just the really "classic" or best-selling series, do you think?

In any case, that would give me a good reason to go to Japan.

Well, I should say so. The news article does say (my emphasis):
Quote:
Over 230,000 manga, dating from the early Meiji era to the present, will be stored in the museum. the majority of the material was donated by two collectors in the Kanto region.
