I may have to break down and import the Only Yesterday BD since I'm dubious it will ever be offered through an R1 distrib.

$91 is most likely full retail. Naturally, places like Amazon.jp will have it discounted.

I know Disney can't touch Only Yesterday because there's one sentence about menstruation in it (ZOMG!!!!) but they did release Kiki on DVD of course and they've released some other Ghibli films on blu-ray. I wouldn't mind Kiki on blu-ray but I'd rather not play $90 for it.

I might just go import that Only Yesterday release if GKids/whoever doesn't grab the rights in the coming months. I saw it in Toronto during this year's Studio Ghibli festival and really enjoyed it.

¥5,284 at the moment, ~$68

Ghibli movies are worth it IMO.

if Disney continues to release 2 bluray Ghibli discs per year like they did this year, it might be a while before we know if Only Yesterday is NA bound.

They've still got: Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor's The Yamadas, Tales from Earthsea, Totoro, and now Kiki and Only Yesterday to release

Likely just gonna for wait the Hong Kong release of Only Yesterday, which should be a great deal cheaper and the same transfer, as with the other Ghibli Blu-rays that have been released there.

Has this ever been confirmed, or is it just fan speculation?

Whatever's holding them back, perhaps they just don't know any big enough market? they're sure as hell not releasing it. "No Cuts" said nothing about licensing and letting it rot.

I would sooner guess that. I don't know how My Neighbors the Yamadas or Pom Poko sold, but I can't imagine that they're among Disney's top-selling Ghibli titles. Adding to it is that Only Yesterday doesn't have the kind of fantastical elements or "cuteness" of the other two. It's regrettable, but no surprise that Disney would sit on it if that's the case.

I'm hopeful that the UK will get Only Yesterday on BD since we got the DVD. We have every other BD Studio Ghibli release so far either out or coming soon so im hopeful. This would be the first Sub only BD release so im still skeptical if they will do it or not. I hope so!

No English subtitles with Only Yesterday. What a rotten shame. I'm already 11 deep into this glorious collection...something like this can't stop me now! :p

Are you sure about that? WTK indicated in his post in the retail thread about these releases that Kiki has both English sub and dub and that Only Yesterday has English sub.

Only Yesterday will have English subs.

Both Studio Ghibli films will have their Japanese soundtracks in DTS-HD MasterAudio 2.0ch and English subtitles.
