and LOL I doubt anyone here who plays the games treats their Pokemon as "unfeeling objects". I for one take care to make sure mine are as happy as possible.

Well, there's smogon, who basically view the game as an Excel spreadsheet. Also the players who usually complain about stuff from the anime like calling Satoshi a dumb trainer for releasing his Pokemon so they can be happy (Butterfree, Okorizaru, etc) as opposed to keeping them enslaved and whipping them to be his servants against their will like a 'good trainer' would do.

I don't see why they wouldn't sue, Nintendo pressures doujinshi artists if they stray too close to bestiality (Faithful Tepig), and PETA is of course far worse than that.

Technically they never sued him to my knowledge, they just 'forcibly asked' him to not use the monsters in his porn doujinshi and only use the human girls. Which is fine by me.. I read those for the girls, not the monsters. But yeah, since PETA is using the Pokemon themselves in this, it might provoke the angry bear

I've always found the PETA backlash to be sort of a knee-jerk reaction to games that seem to be more like over-the-top parodies than anything to be taken seriously. This game seems to be a case-in-point --- people have joked for years that Pokemon is basically a fantasy version of chicken-fighting, where the primary thrust of the game is to raise and train creatures for the specific purpose of fighting each other in a sports-like competition. If a similar game had launched on Newgrounds I'm sure people would've laughed at the clever parody, which I think is being lost simply because it's released by PETA.

A similar game released by anyone else would lack the incredibly preachy dialogue that reads like it was copy and pasted directly from a PETA pamphlet, and therefore might stand a chance of being amusing.

sure is lots of anti-PETa soapboxing going on in this thread. Don't you think the horse is dead enough?

Given that PETA are still actively coming out with this kind of ridiculous bullshit, no.

Yes, how DARE us advanced players play the game in a competitive manner!

Pokemon is an RPG with a rather large emphasis on multiplayer, expecting a metagame to not come out of that is the height of folly.

I've only just recently gotten into competitive battling, and even then, I'm not so much about strategy than I am about dumb luck and poison/paralysis/burn hax.

Uh, I wasn't criticizing smogon for that, just pointing out they would be the group of people who don't follow the 'use whatever Pokemon you want and be happy' mindset and instead boil it down to number crunching and 'unfeeling objects'.

This doesn't surprise me. This is why 2 years ago I wrote a blog about why PETA should be hated with passion. PETA yap when Obama hit a fly. Shocked This is just ridiculous a fly *facepalm*. I don't even understand why they're attacking Pokemon when they're not even real. Even the member of PETA don't have any biology degree at all.

Here's an idea, PETA: How about you take the money that you put into making these stupid ineffective games and actually SAVE SOME ANIMALS?! WHAT A NOVEL IDEA!

Their track record is disgusting. They waste money on crap like this, objectify women in order to advertise how horrible fur clothing is, and let innocent animals die in the process. They're such a joke.

Ugh. I hate when people call them a "radical left-wing group." I sure as hell don't want them to be associated with my side of the aisle.

Seriously, I lol'd so hard at this.
The site even has Pikachu holding a sign "I support team plasma"
Duh, what the hell. They're doing absolutely zero research, huh?
I thought in Pokemon BW and in the manga, there's an explanation to the pokemon emotions and such.
Well, above anything, I do not think I would want to put my pets inside a cage and make them fight just because I play Pokemon. And we do treat our Pokemon with compassion, or else my Golbat wouldn't be a Crobat then.

Haha that just made my day, PETA might actually raise awareness if that happened lol

Does anyone else think they're just trying to grab attention on this one? Seems to me, lately people have been paying less attention to them so maybe they're just trying to get back some of the media coverage.
