uhhh.... dam I expected something more Epic than two characters named Panty and Stocking. Well -_-' maybe I should start having low expectations, but I'll still try to watch once its broadcast.

The only thing I liked from them was TTGL though. Everything else was kinda lame. |

A box of donuts when the news comes out several otaku in Japan start naming their daughters Panty, Stocking, or Garterbelt (which probably sound cooler in Japanese anyway).
Goodness, I can't believe I missed this news article. I must be slipping. Regardless of the names (or title), I'll be checking it out. Especially since Key's interested. I wonder if these girls will arrive to earth in a 1970s Ford van, with decorative art painted on the sides, fuzzy dice hanging from the mirrors, lined with velvet, and has a bed in the back. If they do, the series automatically gets a Masterpiece rating. |

Holy crap, that sounds like a bad porn flick.
Then again this is Gainax we're talking about which has an awful track record with me. I think I've liked...maybe 3 things from them, and even those Gain-axe you at the end of the series.

This is why I don't tend to look forward to Gainax stuff anymore. They used to be my favorite studio but the old days are over and the people that made Gainax interesting in the past no longer work for the company. So now they're just another generic anime company that panders to the masses instead of being experimental and unique like they used to be. Gurren Lagann was a short-lived return to form for them, and then they went back to blending in with the rest of the crowd with their fanservice action shows and cutesy fluff.
For anyone who misses the Gainax of yesteryear, I'd keep my eye out on Studio Khara, Hideaki Anno's new studio that is producing the new Evangelion movies. Once they're done with those movies they should have sufficient funds to begin new projects. It should be very interesting to see what they do. |

Good to see that some people are aware that Gainax pretty much got their start on fanservice, and titles like Eva were the exception, not the rule. I'm quite fine with that too. I'll likely check this out. |

Really? Their first official work was Wings of Honneamise. No fanservice here. Of course, the movie didn't do well and the series that saved them was Gunbuster. Fanservice? Sure, but it was a work with a lot of heart and was unique at the time. Consider it the Gurren Lagann of the 80s. Works like Otaku no Video were completely experimental and unique. Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water was very low on fanservice and skipped the pandering. Neon Genesis Evangelion was certainly one of their most experimental series to that date. Kare Kano was a bit of a departure from their norm, and certainly one for Hideaki Anno (until he left 20 episodes in). Gainax series of old were certainly far more than fanservice and definitely more than fanservice for fanservice sake. It wasn't until Mahoromatic that things began to get out of hand. Then we started seeing series like He is My Master, This Ugly and Beautiful World, etc. |

Yeah, how dare they name characters Panty and Stocking.
It's not like some super popular shounen anime had a character named "Bloomers" after all! |

I have one word, huh? As I'm not aware of such series and that is also an equally bad name but then again I'm putting it in the setting of this series and have no idea what setting the series of which you refer is, like a character named Mrs. Frisbee and a brave male character named Strawberry it depends on the setting. |

He is talking about Bulma from DragonBall. Her whole family is named after underwear. Their last name is Briefs. And then there's Trunks and Bra also.

Never really cared for Dragon Ball but I believe there is a distinct difference between how one would describe the series compared to how this one has been pitched. Also lead versus minor in terms of character.
