The next issue of AI (Issue #21) will come out on April 20, so I will assume that this will be the first issue of your new subscription.

Anime Insider started out as Anime Invasion published quarterly. It went to bi-monthly shortly after changing it's name to Anime Insider. It's circulation when it was quarterly was double Animerica's at the time. They have better distribution thanks to their corporate parent, Wizard Entertainment. I expect their circulation to surpass NewType's eventually since they target some of the younger casual fans.

Anime Insider's circulation is double Newtype's already; 150,000 and 75,000 respectively.

Newtype may (or may not, depending on your opinion) be the better magazine, but its high price certainly hurts its circulation.

And yes, Winzard's distribution network is a major benefit.

Why is everyone talking about Animerica as though it isn't getting its regular run cancelled in June to become a convention-exclusive freebie publication?

Did I miss a subsequent headline?

It's true, I had my dad check(it helps I live in San Francisco where Viz located). If you have subcirction cancel, unless you want Shojo Beat, because that is why they are doing it. Its probally why Anime Insider is doing it.

So their substituting Shojo Beat for Animerica subscriptions?

I would think that's going to turn a few people off without some warning.

Oh dear God no...

AI has to be the WORST anime mag ever... (No, Becket is worse...) I have to put up with the n00bs twice as much now?! Just let me die.

You know, I'd be inclined to lose my temper over such an inconsiderate post... but since the use of the word "n00b" pretty much negates any credibility you may have had, I'll politely request you refrain from such unfounded remarks in the future without at least making an attempt to back them up with reasoning.

Yeah, you just keep paying $13 an issue for an inferior product.

I haven't seen AI in ages. I sure hope they are not as full of errors as they were when I last looked at a copy.

They do have some good writers but the editors need, or needed, to do better fact checking.

What about Protoculture Addicts? PA has always been one of my favorites, especially in their indepth coverage of titles that have not yet been released in North America.

As for Animerica there is still no word from Viz on what was reported in ICV2 back in mid-Feb which means that they may actually not cease publishing.

Notice that Viz decided to cancel Animerica around the same time they licensed Naruto? They must have had to sell off the most of the assets of their company to be able to afford that show...
