I'm honestly amazed this is even still a thing. I thought it ended years ago.
It's slightly depressing that the artist has hardly improved in thirteen years, though. |

DC Comics published the most recent volume. Megatokyo was the only title carried forward from DC's CMX imprint. Dark Horse published the initial volumes. It has been quite awhile since volume 6 came out. It would be interesting to know if he still has an ongoing publishing contract.
There are major improvements in the art style from volume 1 to volume 6. |

I don't think I've read Megatokyo at all in the past ten years. Still going with the ol' sketchy lines and awkward character designs, I see.

Let me introduce you to this medium called "anime", in which simple character designs are pretty common. Gallagher has improved markedly in the past thirteen years (compare the early strips to the more recent ones), particularly in the use of facial expressions. I am inclined to agree with the time-management skills remark. In 13 years, he's gotten to strip 1362 --- a long-term average of two pages a week (not bad, considering the amount of background detail in the more recent strips). The only problem is in the past two years he's averaged about one page every two weeks (and, as a long time reader, I'm surprised that they've been that 'frequent'). |

Compare the 100th comic to the 1000th and then tell me Megatokyo art hasn't changed. I don't know what people are talking about when they say this.
Unfortunately I have no idea where the story is going anymore or what the point is. It seems all over the place. The visual novel seems to have leeway to be creative independent of the comic though. |

I backed the kickstarter, partly because I think following different character routes will clarify the story. The all-over-the-place-ness I chalk up to the fact that he's been doing a manga in the style of a Visual Novel for years, and that the premise is that each character is living in their own delusional dreamworld. |

Yes. It also helps to read the graphic novels when they come out. Being able to read a huge chunk of the story at once (instead of a page every two weeks or so) helps a lot in following the many threads of the plot. |

Well, I'm a little surprised at the nay-sayers, although maybe that's because I was introduced to it as a webcomic and not an OEL manga. When I started reading Megatokyo, I found the world-building amusing and interesting, but the similar character designs did lead me to confuse the different characters. A year or two ago, I went back and re-read it, and was shocked to discover two things:1)spoiler[Largo was actually one of the sanest, most perceptive characters present] and 2)spoiler[much of the insane comedic bits, e.g. with Godzilla, mecha, and/or zombies were actually canon]. It seems a bit obvious in hindsight, but it really made my reading experience special to see the immense change in how I read a lot of scenes. Once I kept the characters and plotlines straight, I could really appreciate the writing, so I recommend those looking for a different take on otaku culture to have a look.

Gallagher and his wife have severe health complications, and considering they have a child to raise, that's a lot to deal with. I'm just thankful they're still around rather than fading into obscurity like many '90s and 2000s folk who just dropped off the radar.
