Macross is easily my favorite mech franchise (I would say Evangelion but spoiler[they're not really mechs],) and am currently in the final stretch of M7 episodes before moving onto Frontier. Can't wait to see what comes out of this.

Well, as Macross has been pretty much my all-time favorite anime since Robotech first aired in the US, I'm...less than enthused.

I'd love to get something that actually looks and feels like a continuation of the original, but at this point I just don't think anybody's interested in making the kind of sequel I want to see. Probably more fanservicey otaku bait like Frontier. Love to be proven wrong, though, and who knows...maybe sixth time's charmed?

YES! YES! YES!

I apologize for this unseemly outburst of enthusiasm. But as a big Macross fan this is excellent news.

Sweet, more Macross is always welcome as long as it's not more Macross 7.

I'm betting it's a remake of the original series or at the very least that place at the same time.

Unlike First gundam, SDF Macross is one anime series that could benefit from a remake, the original run was originally supposed to be longer, then they shortened it to 26 and then they extended it... Really hated the last 10 or so eps.

Oh man this is exciting! Macross is easily my favorite anime franchise of all time. So more Macross is rarely a bad thing.

I really, REALLY, hope this is a sequel and not a remake of SDF-Macross. I'd much rather see things moving into the future, then wallowing in the past.

Since the Macross chronology is such a clusterfuck (alternate timelines, retcons everywhere etc...). I'd say it's time to do a sequel to Macross II, the only spin-off to date to capture the original feeling. Get Mikimoto to do the character designs. As for the mecha design, anyone is better than Kawamori. That man hasn't been able to do an innovative design in years.

If you're expecting the creator of the Macross franchise to not be involved, then your mistaken.

Except the Macross II isn't considered canon, so it's a big part of the cluster**** you're talking about.

Ha ha, if Macross II is not canon, DYRL is what ? A fantasy ?
And Macross Zero ? Give me a break.
The Macross timeline has no consistency, it stopped be consistent the day DYRL came out in the theaters.
And truth be told Macross II was the offical sequel to Macross when it came out in 1992. But the fans complained (poor poor fans couldn't cope with the new mecha designs and new characters) and the powers that be retconned Macross II to be what an alternate timeline ? Rolling Eyes Laughing

In any case there is more Macross in Macross II than in any of the other Kawamori-approved sequels/prequels/retcons...

My understanding was that the contradictions within franchises were explained by every movie and TV series being an actual movie and TV series based on the real events (which are not directly depicted)... or is that just a meta fan theory?
