Happy Cooking Graffiti (TV)

Genres: comedy, slice of life
Themes: cooking

Plot Summary: The story follows Ryou, a middle school girl who lives by herself. She has a knack for cooking and makes friendships with everyone through her food. The cooking manga is "full of detailed cuisine art to whet the appetite and slightly erotic meal scenes." The "koufuku" in the title is a wordplay on two Japanese homonyms—one which means "happiness," and another that means "appetite."

This looks really cute and it makes me hungry looking at the food ;o

Studio Shaft will be in charge with this so I'm curious to see how they will play around with the gimmick and premise. Seems like it's a comedy/slice of life though so I'm not expecting too big on the story but rather on the humor of it. This definitely looks like fun though!

Episode 1:

Pretty cute on most parts. I like spoiler[Kirin the most from the cast while Shaft did a decent job with crafting the food of the show. The ending was cute too.]

I think there was a spoiler[Alice in Wonderland gimmick thrown in there too.]

The art is really nice.
A bunch of girls again..
It looks nice with some innocent fan service.
Sure has been a while since a good cooking anime..
All in all, skipping it, not really interesting enough for me.

Just what last season was missing. Cute girls doing cute things. The ero eating scenes should be a good warmup till Shokugeki no Souma comes out in the spring.

Oh, man, that preview song...

I can think of no one better-equipped to extract sexuality from a mundane activity like eating than SHAFT and Simbo. I still get chills thinking about Nisemonogatari's toothbrushing scene.

And I want that meat bag.

Watched the first episode yesterday and I have no idea why, but I really liked this. Cute girls doing cute things whilst talking about, preparing and eating food. What's not to like?

Watching this one on an empty stomach is not a good idea. Cute show. Will follow.

Watching it while eating is not a good idea, either. It makes your own meal feel woefully inadequate.

But yes, it was really cute. I already really like the two main girls, and their relationship.

Now to find something suitable to eat before the next episode. Very Happy

Am I the only one with Yuri googles that when Kirin said "I will be whatever you want except your kid" had Ryo thinking "By the end of the series you will be licking my fingers and calling me onee-sama" Embarassed

Episode 2

I might be mostly alone with this thought, but I am not a big fan of the mix in this series. Mixing the food in a pretty much pornographic way kind of makes me feel uncomfortable and a little sick in the stomach. I don't think my sensibilities are that high, I can watch full fanservice shows, and it is why I did not comment in the first episode because it might have just been one time, but I am still feeling it. I think just the idea of food and sexuality does not sit too well with me, it kind of makes me feel like I am watching some sort of monster eating a person (like Attack on Titan).

Am I weird?

I find this series really cute for some reason. Not just the food, characters, and the slice of life feel but also just the way the show is done in general. And as for the latest episode, spoiler[I liked how the girls ate food under the sakura trees together. Friendship is a pretty thing in this series. Not only that but add some Shaft head tilts to this and we get quite a few memorable moments.]

Episode 3

How much do those girls eat? I don't know if eating right before watching this helped or made me feel overwhelmed by the amount of dishes.

I finally got around to trying this show, and absolutely relished it. It's just so cute and fun and warm. Plus, I love cooking. Heck, I'm even watching the show for tips!

"The social bonds forged by food" is an interesting theme. In this isolated, fast-paced world, what could be better than slowing done and savoring real food with the people you care about?

Yeah, seriously, they must have gone through at least 12 omelets. Kirin, at least, must have a very fast metabolism.

RE: the "food porn" scenes, there's a big difference between sexuality and sensuality. I don't find it exploitative or disgusting at all. In fact, I think it's more a symptom of minds in the gutter that people are making such a fuss of it over the internet.

It's a funny show. It's got all the joy of cooking, friendship and sweet reminisces about Grandma... but it also depresses me, becasue it's also a sort of nasty story of parental neglect. I mean, it's not your usual story of a kid living the perfect life while the parents are away, this girl is desperately lonely and constantly ashamed over things she should not be. Episode 3 was particularly alarming in that regard asspoiler[ she did her hardest to please the parents who apparently consider their work far more important than their daughter.] And in this one, episode 4, the way she thinks spoiler[it shameful to "impose" on KIrin's family without considering for a moment that Kirin REALLY wanted her company and that her parents would be very happy to express their gratitude to the friendship she shows her daughter AND apologize for them imposing on HER.]
So, while there is fun and food porn, I can't help but see the sadness too.
