I wonder if some people took it at face value and not as a joke. Would be funny to see completely serious posts like "Washington recognizes how valuable anime is" and "Anime conquers the world".
On a serious note I wonder what Obama has to say about certain Japanese new laws which are not exactly democratic.

Obama should condemn the state secrets bill, it's not even a law designed for national security and government secrets but a way to hide corporate and political tyranny, Japan needs not to have a bill like that with rampant tyranny in the country, it's certain to be abused. I fear the day that the tyranny in the entertainment industry in Japan becomes a state secret.

Too late. The real reason why famous anime talent dies is because they broke the secrecy clause in their contacts.

That was rather unexpected, but cool that Obama mentioned anime and manga in his speech.
However, I am rather concerned about this "TTIP" which I'm almost certain Abe mentioned briefly.

So, he mentions anime and manga and it's a glory to anime now? Anime fans really sure are easy to please, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Holy shit, President Obama knows anime?! I think I'm going to have an otaku and political orgasm,

He didn't forget it. He thanks them for "Anime." What do you think hentai is? It's pornographic anime, manga, games. Hentai isn't completely separate from Anime. It's just another type of anime, just like ecchi, romance, slice-of-life, etc.

I can say "Thanks Obama". Feels good to have voted for him twice.
However, with regards to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), I oppose it. That is what this visit is about.

And emojis, eh? Was there ever a time in the colonial era where a Native American leader visited a European country, thanking them for bringing smallpox?

So President Obama, some may have called you the coolest US. president ever while others called you the best U.S. president ever. Your reply?

I'm almost tempted to think that Obama thanked him for anime deliberately, as if to say, "Okay, let's see you stand up here and call the leader of the Free World a 'Pedophilic Internet-addicted NEET slacker who watches Doraemon because he can't let go of his childhood'!"
(Yeah, I know those not involved with the sales/financial side of anime are laughing at us for liking it, let's see them do it to our face.)
If I thought he had enough background, I'd give him credit for it; I know I sure would've, just to put Abe on the spot.

I'm pretty sure almost much no one would have cared if he said it "a-ni-may" or "mahngah" except people who are so far gone even the Japanese are terrified. |
LOL right!

He's got two teen daughters and knows about anime but not Miku??
That's what happens when you're a jazz fan; your other cultural tastes suffer.

And Miku sings jazz as well, just as well as Meiko, and Luka.
