Still baffling me why there's no show cover the Kamakura period yet.

Maybe there needs to be an anime adaptation of:

I voted for Girls Dead Monster. I love LiSA's singing.

You must, to want to see a band who plays in the afterlife. That's dedication! Wink

Considering I just got a Black Stones poster auto'd a week ago, I probably should go with that.

Kind of surprised to not see Samurai Champloo listed for the Edo period, since it manages to touch on multiple aspects of the culture of that time.

Ah, if only Hyouge Mono was legally available. I really enjoyed that show.

You might also mention Taisho Baseball Girls for the Taisho era, if only for the song about the changing times in the first episode.

And bits of Abenobashi Mahou Shotengai is set in the Heian era (spoiler[well, with a time-travelling Abe-no-Semei]).

The poll is way too difficult to decide this time! I had to go with Houkago Tea Time for live, but I would love to see a taped concert of Detroit Metal City... I don't have the guts to actually be at that concert, though. Laughing

As the article said, Showa is way too long and had so much change going on in Japan in the rest of the world it's hard to really think of an anime that would encompass it... but for some reason Higurashi always comes to mind when I think of late Showa. And maybe this is an American's perspective, but Kids on the Slope just screams 1960s to me. Even though it takes place in Japan, it's exactly how I always imagined the 60s to be from what my dad has talked about.

That was easily my favorite "The List." I think it would be a great idea to expand the concept into a much larger stand-alone editorial piece.

I think it's more developed in the visual novel than the anime, but Higurashi takes place during the last years of the Showa era in the 1980s, and sort of depicts Japan's changing of values during that time.

Again though, it's really more of the VN which does a better job of covering this.

As someone who loves history this is one of my favorite lists.

And for the Heian period I would also recommend Uta Koi and anime focusing on the 100 poems.

Damn, that Pokemon list. It's just a nostalgia trip, isn't it? Did anyone actually look at the flaws and strengths of each film and decide which one was the best from that?

No? Mewtwo just makes everyone smile? Everyone's obsessed with orbs? ORBS?!

Okay, Entei was okay I guess, but having 1, 2 and 3 in the 1, 2 and 3 spots is kinda annoying.

For the new poll, I voted for The μ's from Love Live. I find their singing to be beautifully fun. Smile

Was tore between the K-ON band and Egoist. But went with Egoist in the end. I love all the music i've heard from them. And they are more rock, where HTT is obviously pop.

For post-war Showa, I'd also recommend Mai Mai Miracle (which as a bonus also has some flashbacks to the Heian era) and Only Yesterday.

Seconding Mai Mai Miracle. A tremendously good show, and an important one. To give you some idea of it's intrinsic popularity, the production company spent no money on advertising it (an error), and found that the theaters had sentenced it to the death slot of 9am-noon showings. What happened was that in the director's words "neckties" showed up. Salarymen were ditching work in order to see this window onto their childhood.

So, yes, highly recommended.

Hakuouki would have been a far better choice for the Meiji period than Kenshin. Because it's an animated version of Hijikata's route, the anime focuses on the setbacks faced by the Shinsengumi as they are gradually forced to retreat north.
