Episode 10:

Wow, that was a great episode. The way Gaen spoke was meaningful considering that she tells about Shinobu's reasoning to come to town. And not just that but she also has her own work to do.

There's also quite a bit of amusing interactions between Kanbaru and Araragi imo, scenes that I found were quite stylistic to this show. Overall, good stuff. That cliffhanger also sets up events for the next part.

I had completely forgotten Episode was gonna be spoiler[involved in all of this until Gaen mentioned she called for outside help. And that freaking LN cover, Shaft, why. Everyone knows Kaiki is the uke, not the seme.

Also Araragi should've gotten it in his head already that whenever he tries buying porn, awful things happen to him.]

This is the episode which really goes close to the knuckle in the 18+ jokes territory, still it's very amusing to see an irreverent Koyomi x Kanbaru exchange on something completely unrelated to the task at hand. Naturally Koyomi's timing is absolutely horrendous since he HAS to bump into the one person he shouldn't be seeing when he's out getting supplies.

The first half of the episode does drag slightly but that's probably understandable given the whole sequence of events which led to the big exposition in the first place. Shinobu is still in full-on denial mode though, so no help expected from her for the foreseeable future.

So Shinobu screwed up when she went to the shrine when they planned to time travel, all that convenient power was not quite so.

Also this was something that had been bothering me for a while, I have been thinking that maybe it was going to get answered and after the episode I thought maybe it was getting mentioned. It was the origins of the talisman that houses the snake god that Nadeko eats. Gaen was talking about the god at the shrine, and also mentioned something about a talisman.

Honestly, I feel like a lot of what Gaen said flew over my head, which kind of feels like what Koyomi felt a bit. Pretty much that the samurai is tied to a lot apparitions, and he has drawn a Shinobu. But what is the importance of the kid beyond obviously being the Samurai, like a friend of Tsukihi, if there is any.

I was going to cause some attention to Koyomi getting so close to a girl (suruga) at the moment, but then I remembered the sort of thing Hitagi is doing at the moment (Tsubasa).

Episode 11:

Ooh, it's Episode. Been awhile since he made an appearance.

The Shinobu/Araragi moments were fun to see again

I love the buildup for this episode especially with the Oddity Slayer. Same with Kanbaru's involvement in this episode with her understanding about their problem. Pretty intense episode, good stuff.

Because the movie airs after this arc, anyone not familiar with the source will have no clue who exactly Episode is or what he's referring to in his little comment to Araragi regarding the location of the duel. Why Gaen has asked a blond youth with a huge crucifix to join the party was hinted at in Shiro Nekomonogatari, but the full details will be revealed next week.

So this week sees the denouement between Kanbaru and Shinobu. The scene is powerful only if the voices did their jobs properly, which they have with some style. This book's theme of not running away when faced with an emotional challenge is hammered home quite convincingly as a result.

Next week should end this since the duel is the culmination of everything that's happened thus far. If they're going to animate the final book in this season, they'll have run out of time and will most likely need to do what they did previously in doing webcast airings to close the gap.

Suruga beat Shinobu's pride. Felt like it went back to her original arc where she was dealing with jealousy over Koyomi over Hitagi. What really helped get over it all was having Hitagi herself confronting Suruga over her love.

Along with her part in Hanamonogatari, Suruga is a big character. Don't underestimate this series resident perverted, bisexual, BL loving, High school girl.

Episode 12 (finale):
WOW.

That was one of the best episodes/arcs I've seen this entire year. Everything from the stylistic fight that was highly decorative, unique, extravagant and whatever other explosiveness the show tried to do...worked. VERY WELL.

It was great seeing some of my favorite characters in the final episode too including Senjougahara, Kanbaru, Shinobu, etc.
The way the dialogues were used were extremely appealing as well. Shinobu eating Seishiro's remains is like an iconic moment just like when Araragi won his fight.

Glad to see Ougi one last time as well. That girl is one of the most mysterious characters I've ever seen. Great show overall, easily one of my favorites for this season. Rating it Excellent.

I think having knowledge of Kizumonogatari makes this ending even better, so I'm kinda sorry for the people who don't. But they, that means they'll have an excuse to re-watch, I suppose.

I rate Owarimonogatari below Second Season in general, though I felt Ougi Formula in particular was right up there with the best arcs of the series. Now I'll have to wait for Koyomimonogatari and for the Blu-rays to rewatch it.

This arc isn't over yet. Like the other seasons that have aired before, the animators have run out of time to do all of the novels comprising the set in one quarter. If they're planning to do a new year's eve special, they won't have much time to pull it off. If they don't do that, it will be webcasts that will finish this season properly.

Not many books remaining which haven't been animated. SHAFT and the director will get their wish and do the whole set in the near future as the novels are running to a close.

As for the episode itself, no one would have seen what was coming since the item Araragi used to win the duel hasn't been seen since the very first season and was only indirectly mentioned over the course of this novel. Unlike his previous reliance on his vampire powers, having the link cut actually forced him to use his wits for once which paid off handsomely.

I was wondering what kind of shot they would use featuring Hanekawa and the video message, I'm not sure I'd agree with the pose she used.

The chat right at the start was also well done. Nothing's permanent and humans have to work maintain what they've built before oblivion and time consume it all.

Yeah, I know there's another Owari novel and a Zokuowari one to still be adapted, I expect them both to come at a season just like this, instead of a special airing all at once like Hana or Tsuki.

Wasn't it mentioned in Kabuki as well? Rather indirectly, maybe.

If Shaft are being faithful to the seasons as presented at source, then odds are the last of the Owarimonogatari novels will be aired on its own rather than together with the Zoku set which comprises the 3rd season.

As for the item, if it got a mention in the timeslip novel then it was either in passing or extremely indirectly (owing to the circumstances and the fact that the seal did not work once they travelled back).

Episode 12 (finale)

I was thinking that this was going to be the last season (not counting prequel movie), but this season ends here and to get the final deal with Ougi is still left to come. Honestly it has left me a little disappointed, which itself is disappointing because this has been pretty standout. The thing with Hitagi saying she would 100% switch if a more qualified person came into the picture did take me by surprise, but there was a strangely brilliant side to it. It was a warning that if no effort is put into sustaining a relationship with other people, then it just kind of rots and can be a bad thing. And thus there is so much emphasis on the importance of fighting hard for the people who are important to you.

The second part of my disappointment is that I expected this entire season would place a huge amount of importance on Ougi, but this arc mostly only had her talking about it after the fact. Although there was importance put that Ougi seems to think what she learned from the story was the final piece she needed, and there seemed to be some emphasis that Gaen wanted the situation to take the suit of armour. For the season as a whole, Ougi was a great presence, she/he/it had only appeared as small parts scattered, but there was focus here. Just need some closure. I did really enjoy the earlier arcs too.

I give a rating of Very good.

Don't know if this is allowed, but can anyone tell me what Monogatari series and episode this scene is from?
