Ep 5
The show is already revealing the hand that the Windemere kingdom is already having factions dividing up the effort, it should play out interestingly in the long run.
And as this is not getting a legal stream in the US, anyone else get the fansub version with the commercials, lol.

Episode 6:
I wonder why Mikumo is being hard on Freyja since she joined the Walkure.
Not bad, I liked this episode for the song Walkure played, better than their previous performance imo. Action is nice, I got much more than expected. Keith and Messer still has that rivalry thing going on, Hayate improved his skills, and the battle in general is pretty good.
Mikumo and Freyja stood out as the best singers for that performance. Bogue still has that grudge against Walkure, the song must be ringing hard on his ears lol. One interesting thing about the episode is that I think Hayate may have developed a rivalry with Bogue. Close call for Mikage this episode...
Speaking of which, an infiltration mission coming? I'm hyped. Those ears are just too damn adorable!

I am doubling down on Mikumo at some point revealed to be a next gen android, and one of those capabilities would be an emergency pin point barrier, she put her self in front of the rest of the Walkure group during the missile barrage AND in particular had an animated shot of Mikumo in front of Freyja.
Now "why" is she being hard can be taken in a number of directions, if my theory proves true it is one of those "why is organic sometimes so blatantly illogical?" type of questions, if NOT... Mikumo is still a mysterious entity especially with her comment that Freyja's fold wave feels like a "void" (or however the fan translation wants to make of it).

Coming up Episode 7
Is the purpose of this to show how stupid management is? Because anyone with an ounce of brains would not have excepted this mission and assign Delta squad to do it .
Sigh.... I think I may skip episode 7, I am not a fan of stupidity.

Once again the big battles are a bit difficult to follow. Too much stuff going on. The music and the interactions between characters make them at least somewhat exciting, but I'd rather want them to concentrate on single fights at a time.

The simple explanation is that it was meant to show that even though Mikumo is hard on Freyja, she does care about her. It's a commonly seen gesture, even if being a meat shield wouldn't be enough to actually save anyone.

I really like how Hayate and Mirage are starting to get along with each other.
One of the mysteries of this series that I'd like to see revealed is the identity of Lady M. Some people are speculating that it might be Mylene Jenius, which actually does make a bit of sense since she was a member of Sound Force in Macross 7. Plus, it would be nice to see a grown-up Mylene!

Episode 7:
Neat episode, we got the infiltration mission in full session. I wasn't actually expecting the entire Walkure team and Delta squadron's core members to be in it including Messer.
Seems like they discovered the origins of the Vars virus this episode as well after some investigations. Interesting although I didn't find it too surprising, somewhat amused actually that part of it has connections to apples.
Makina and Reina also deserves some praise imo this episode for their role as hackers.
The ending is a cliffhanger so I have bad feeling about Hayate's group after getting separated. Bogue seems eager to look for some punishment.

This show is truly the next evolution of idols (or an extension of AKB0048). While it is a little disappointing they're not piloting the VFs, that doesn't stop the Walkure to be both cute idols and active badasses! I mean how often do we have anime shows with idols conducting infiltration and hacking? I'd say, it sure beats just them singing.

Though it probably wasn't the best idea to send the whole unit on an infiltration mission. If all of them got captured there goes the best countermeasure against the Var...
Must say I really like the overall casual attitude most of the characters have around each other. Like how they all just hang out with each other after hours or even on this mission they're not particularly tense and chat so candidly. While walking down that dark hallway you'll notice that Freyja is holding Hayate's arm but neither the characters nor the show make a big deal out of it.

As I eluded to in my post on the ninth I wonder how the conversation went when they accepted this mission....
Executive 1 "OK the government whats to contract us to find out what has happened on the planet that was captured and is now in enemy space." Executive 2 "Hmm who should we send... who should we send..." Executive 3 "I know, Delta squad isn't doing anything, let's send them." Secretary "but aren't they the only ones that can fight the Var Syndrome and we have no backups for?" brief silence in the meeting room ... Executive 1" Great idea Executive 3, we aren't paying them for sitting around. So it is decided we will send delta squad" Secretary " sigh... idiots".
I am not a fan of stupid writing and I hope that this is the only laps in the series.

The issue is that the Var was believed to be a regional "space fairing syndrome", after learning that it was in fact a tool used by Wyndmere the use of the Walkure would need to be modified as of course Wyndmere and its Space Knights simply aren't going to let the Walkure "set up there stage" and de-mindcontrol the various regions armed forces (that is literally what the previous episode was about)
IF it was that simple, they wouldn't need to be having a covert ops in the first place.
At the very least this episode displayed that some of the Walkure are specialists besides being "magical idols", as Darkchibi07 mentioned this is effectively what happened in AKB0048, the significant difference of course is that 0048 had a much more numeric presence of Idol singers so letting a half dozen or so idols go off and play "Metal Gear" would far from interrupt the groups ability to continue to perform singing events.
Just to reiterate, when your "ace in the hole" is already countered by force of arms, it doesn't feel AS stupid when they already dedicated an episode by trying to use the magic of song and showing off that it utterly failed.

I think having Delta Squadron and Walkure infiltrate Voldor was simply plot efficiency and plot necessity. They have no infiltration characters, so they just insert the cast because those are the characters we have to follow in the show. And it's always a trope that at some point the enemies in a conflict have to meet face-to-face. Ever more dramatic if the heroes are captured
It's contrived and silly, so I won't defend this wiritng choice. But the episode is enjoyable, so I understand the choice and just roll with it.

Episode 8:
Damn, that was intense. For what's worth, Bogue showed a lot of his true colors this episode and I find his ambition for war to be a bit absurd.
What really caught my eye this episode though was the way Messer reacted to the song and in general, I think he has the Var effect in him. Oh and he meets Keith face to face for the first time as part of their ongoing rivalry. Hayate improved his piloting skills and I think he started a personal rivalry with Bogue now. I wonder if he'll regret sparing Bogue at the end there though....
Messer episode coming soon from the looks of it. I wonder what his background story is about because based on some short glimpses of the flashbacks, they aren't pleasant.
