This film looks and sounds legitimately good and like it's getting critical recognition even from outside the usual anime circle and publicity machine which is a rarity these days. It's about one of the only things I'm looking forward to seeing next year.

I got to see it already at the Japanese Film Festival in Sydney. It's a pretty good film. It's more of a series of short tales throughout a year of these characters, and there's a nice spoonfull of surreal imagery in it. The characters are also pretty good, and the animation's great too, despite a large amount of CGI (particularly in scenes involving a certain bridge).

This movie was...interesting. I saw it when it first came out here in Japan quite a few months back. It had some great imagery and some real stand-out scenes, and the attention to detail was great, but as a narrative it feels surprisingly lacking, almost unfinished. Not nearly as strong a film all-around as the direcor's other film, Colorful.
