If I was a kid & a 30something guy tried to talk about comics with me, I'd probably tell a teacher too.

I kinda get that the teacher in this case was possibly being rather inappropriate, though for all anyone knows, maybe he was just being silly and meant no harm?

But woah, looking at all the related incidents, people take this stuff WAY too seriously.
If a bully can easily get away with saying that they'll kill a fellow classmate, or beat them up, then why are kids getting in trouble for writing names down in notebooks..? (At least from my own and others' experiences. Maybe there are schools out there that actually care when someone is bullied, and do something about it.)
They probably aren't even going to act on it, so who cares? They're just being kids.

Heh, usually it's the students who are doing things like this.

I was thinking what student would take those threats seriously (though even if they didn't believe it, the disciplinary measures seemed appropriate) but then I read that it was elementary school students so yeah I can see that being more of an issue than with older students.

Seriously. Hasn't it occurred to anyone that there is no such thing in the real world and that no notebook has any kind of power over life and death? (Except maybe a grade book, but that's an inside joke for teachers.) Apparently, some people can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.

Or, y'know, maybe a teacher shouldn't be threatening to write down students' names in a book that implies he wishes them dead? It's essentially saying, "If I write your name down, you will die. Don't make me do that." It doesn't matter if it's fiction. It's inappropriate.

Also, considering the degree to which school shootings occur in the US... You need to be careful.

Japan doesn't really have school shootings like the U.S. does though.

Was more responding to people downplaying the reactions to students having them in the US. Certainly they should be handled delicately to ensure the student isn't serious, and if they are the target of bullies and/or suffering from a mental health problem. But they are obligated to respond. The moment a school ignores it and something horrible happens, people will be questioning why they failed to act.
