I tend not to want to spend a lot of money on a Japanese CD based on word of mouth alone, so I'll probably buy less, but I'm sure that has very little impact on the Japanese economy. Anime smile

When I was buying seiyuu CDs I was almost completely relying on word of mouth. Not completely since I've usually heard their anime songs first, but in most cases their solo stuff isn't used in anime. Helped that I had a cheap (but slow) source for importing Japanese CDs (I think they had more volume from the UK). Even managed to listen to a couple of Megumi Hayashibara CDs they had in stock.

For general J-pop I owe more to watching music shows on Asian cable channels back in the nineties. Probably not coincidentally, the Filipino-Japanese friendship channel had a lot of Avex J-pop videos in rotation when Avex Asia CDs were in stock locally. Been kind of slim pickings lately, though, with the overseas edition of ayaka's First Message being the only J-pop I've seen in stores aside from Hikaru Utada's stuff.

There's always Japan-A-Radio if you want to try before you buy.

Well, the problem with fansubs is that even fans that like the series, if it does end up being licensed, and also bilingual, more people would already have burned the series onto a disc.

I can understand some series that probably won't EVER make it to America, like Sailor Stars. And there are sites that even sell these series, though I'm pretty sure it's bootleg for English subs.

*shrugs.* It's not my cup of tea, though. I've heard anime from various resources, including, magazines, internet, etc, and that's how I started my collection. Though maybe I don't expand on a lot of series because I wait until I can afford it.

Japan has a right to do this if it's getting out of hand, if they want to protect their rights according to law, then by all means....

I guess we'll have to see what happens.
