No kidding. Isn't it a rule to change the seiyuu to a male actor when a male character becomes 17? Why they kept Goku with Nozawa all the way to adulthood I'll never know. I know the U.S. dub is crappy, but at least a guy actor made more sense.

Ok this is a really big long shot because I'm sure there must be dozens of Wing Goddesses on the net but are you the one who went as Hitomi at Anime North one year?

The other day I watched a trailer for "Happy Lesson", and the announcer kept pronouncing the main character's name, which is "Chitose", like "Cheetos" or something.

So the "bi" in "bishounen" does not sound like the "bi" in "bisexual?" This is news to me.

Not really, and with the way things are going, Mayumi Tanaka will still voice Luffy even in his 20s and Junko Takeuchi will still voice Naruto whenever he becomes Hokage. I think there's also the perspective of how the Japanese grew up with & cherish the seiyuus over the years. Kinda like how no one can really imagine Bart from The Simpsons without Nancy Cartwright even if he were to grow up, because it's something that sorta becomes part of the character over the years.

I thought of another example of bad dubbing, though I'm not quite sure if it counts as "dubbing"....I'm talking about some of the voice-overs I've heard in trailers for anime. It seems they don't always bother to teach the announcers how to pronounce Japanese names. The [Bible Black dub] script was entirely butchered with F-bombs and different words for private parts. x_x

Japanese vowels, unlike in English, have only one sound:
a- "ah"
e- "eh"
i- "ee"
o- "oh" (surprising, no?)
u- "oo"

I wonder if the Simpsons Japanese dub took the Shin-chan route and rewrote the jokes that made references to American popular culture. Then again, there may be more Japanese that are familiar with American culture than there are Americans familiar with Japan.

I still think "bye"-shounen sounds better than "bee" shounen, but that doesn't make it more right I suppose.

Evangelion is NOT overrated - as long as you refrain from saying that it is the best Anime ever made. It is the most influential, and perhaps the most well-known. But not the best. That said, it eats other series for breakfast, so to speak...
I have little doubt that those who attack its popularity do not appreciate what EVA did for Anime, and how awesome it was back then.

YES, YES YES!!!

Because there are other hentai that I've watched that actually stuck to the original script; and wasn't overly treated like a dirty american porno, And it wasn't just used for the sex scenes.
