honestly has anone ever made it though the directors cut of akira without falling asleep? or fast forwarding to the good parts. i think i understand the story now but god i've never made it all the way through the film.

Well, Jackie Brown is not exactly unrecognised - but it's true that it does have a somewhat lower profile than it deserves, which is what I guess you mean by "under-recognized". Personally, I loved it. Not just for the chance to see Pam Grier execute a novel twist on her old roles in the "blaxploitation" films she used to work in - but also for the moments of shock comedy that break up an otherwise intricate narrative. Honestly, I don't know anyone who's seen that film and didn't get a solid laugh out of it - spoiler[especially from the scene where Louis (Robert De Niro) suddenly gets tired of Melanie (Bridget Fonda) and shoots her.] That's a genuine Tarantino moment. I'm not too terribly fond of Quentin Tarantino (in fact, I think he's vastly overrated) but he does have his moments... -abunai |
