Light-Up Hikaru Skirt Creator's Next Project is Skirt With Robot Arms

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The "wearable special effects" skirt project, "Hikaru Skirt" (Shining Skirt) debuted last year, claiming to turn the "zettai ryōiki" (i.e. the "absolute territory" between where a girl's skirt ends and her stockings begin) into "komorebi ryōiki,"or "territory where sunshine filters through the trees." Idol group Mōsō Collaboration wore the skirts for their music video, "Mahou no Juice" last year.

The brain behind the project was kayac creative director and interactive designer Kiyoyuki Amano. Amano is reinventing zettai ryōiki again, this time with the "Arm Skirt." This robotic "enhancement" is supposed to support and protect the wearer's life, and her absolute territory. The arms are operated via remote control and can also assist by holding small items.

Amano is working on the Arm Skirt with Amauchi Industry and Bloomake Lab, the groups behind the design, development, and manufacturing of the recent half-size Tachikoma project.

An Instagram account dedicated to the Arm Skirt is sharing pictures and videos.
