Digitimes: Foxconn Begins Trial Production on Nintendo NX Game System
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The Taiwanese technology news source Digitimes reported on Friday that, according to its industry sources, the Taiwan-based Foxconn Electronics company has started trial production on Nintendo's next-generation platform, codenamed "NX." The sources also said that annual production on the system is estimated at 9.5-10 million units.
Nintendo announced in April that it plans to release the game system in March 2017.
Nintendo announced in March 2015 that it "is developing a game hardware platform with an entirely new concept under the developmental codename NX." Nintendo's late former president and CEO Satoru Iwata then revealed in May 2015 that the company is considering making the console region-free.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said in January that the NX will not be the successor for existing game hardware, and it will be based on a completely new concept in game systems.
