Warner's Blue Ribbon Content, Amuse USA make action-adventure about idol metal unit

Warner Bros. announced on Wednesday that it is producing an original shortform series based on Japanese idol and heavy metal fusion group Babymetal. Warner Bros. describes the series:

The action-adventure will take viewers inside the magical world of heavy metal music as it comes under attack, and one lonely god, Kitsune, forms the warrior band BABYMETAL to save the day. In the series, SU-METAL, YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL join together to ultimately redefine the genre. The series will also feature new live-action performances from the group, who will enter the animated world through a secret portal.

The series will be a hybrid live-action and animated show. Warner Bros.' digital Studio Blue Ribbon Content, the Amuse USA subsidiary of Japan's Amuse Inc., and Babymetal manager Key Kobayashi are credited as producers.

Babymetal appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on April 5, where they performed the track "Gimme Chocolate!!" from their 2014 album.

The group's second album, Metal Resistance, charted on the U.S. Billboard's Top 200 at #39 in its first week on April 1, making it the first Japanese album to chart on the U.S. Billboard Top 40 since Kyū Sakamoto's Sukiyaki and Other Japanese Hits in 1963, 53 years ago.

The group began a world tour immediately after the release of Metal Resistance, beginning at London's Wembley Arena on April 2, and concluding at Tokyo Dome on September 19 and 20.
